TSX question on which one??
TSX question on which one??
Thinking about getting the lady a new TSX 2.4L, V4, 16valve VERSE TSX 3.4L, V6, 24 valve.......... I know there is more to the TSX than just the engine so please extend my knowledge to any pros/cons to getting one over the other. Is just getting the V4 worth saving the extra $5 g's instead of springing for the V6...? Also, I want the V6 (obviously) but having trouble convincing her it will be worth it. Is one safer than the other as a possible barging chip? Or am I wrong? If not how could I explain that to her? Thanks a ton for any and all help...
I recently bought the V4(Really it's an I4) and find the power to be sufficient at most times, a bit sluggish on the up hills specially in the 1st-3rd gear.
The V6 model i drove was noticeably faster and i found myself reaching 60 without knowing it on quiet a few occasions.
Besides the engines, the cars are the same minus the badging.
In my opinion go with the V4, save the money, and the fuel.
I currently get 9.5L/100km.
Which is the same as my old corolla.
You get more millage, and it's cheaper like you said.
For a woman, not being sexiest, but I don't believe your wife will care tremendously about speed as much as going farther for less.

Thanks man, good advice. Since I will be getting her this car I will be stuck with my old truck. Was kinda hoping to get the extra power as a little toy for myself but I think you are right. Thanks again..
And also as a result of the bigger V6 up front, the TSX V6 is heavier. Larger motor, more beefier suspension components, more unsprung weight. So, in theory, it's more prone to understeer. Which might annoy you depending on how aggressive you drive and what type of driving you'll be doing(i.e. highway cruising or around town stuff).

i test drove both cars and the i4 didn't have enough power for me. there's just not enough low end torque. i don't know if the demo car i drove didn't have the right gas or what, but i didn't really feel the power up top either. and although i don't really need all that power most of the time, i know if i do need it, and it's not there, i'd be pretty upset.

For years I drove a vw TDI with 90 hp. I only stepped up to the TSX because of the nice amenities of the car, the I4 has more than enough power for any situation. Might you want more - sure, do you need more - NO. Requiring 0-60 times of less than 7 seconds in a car is ridiculous and giving up 5-7 mpg for that is even worse.
If we don't start changing our attitude now just wait until all you have to choose from are 1800 lb cars that get 0-60 in 12 or 16 seconds.
That's like saying...yeah...I'll date an ugly girl instead of a pretty girl. I mean the ugly girl functions just a well as a pretty girl. Who needs the extra bells and whistles?
That's also like saying...why are people modifying their TSXs with expensive rims and parts? The car runs fine stock.

All you need to get more car is a little more money (or borrow more), while getting a hot girl depends on several other factors as well...
Haha. Yeah...the girl story maybe a bit extreme.
BUT...many people like working for and getting nice shit...the car companies are just complying to our wishes by making nicer more powerful cars.
That's human nature...can't really change that.
BTW...I've dated ugly chicks...and attractive chicks. I'm sticking with the attractive ones...even if they're a bit more troublesome at times. I like the extra bells and whistles.

I chose the V6. I agree with 'its raden' that the base model does not have enough low in torque. The base weights 3470 and develops 170 FtLbs of torque (20 ratio). The V6 weights 3680 and develops 254 FtLbs of torque (14 ratio) That 41% more torque per pound, very noticable and much more in line with other cars in its class.
I also agree with DJMcGee that purchase decisions should also consider emissions and petroleum consumption. However, I am getting 25MPG overall and 30 on the highway. When I calculated the miles I drive in a year, the difference in gas milage was only a 2 - 3 gallons per month. I can make that up in other ways, like riding my bike to work more often.

i KINDA agree on what djmcgee said. but like coffeefingers said, human nature to want more. i think its jsut the way ppl see it, some ppl might want mroe power for spirited drive, others that are less of a car enthuist might only want to get from point A to B.
lol...the U.S. is a HP hungry country.
While the skunk works at AMG, ///M, and Audi's RS create 450HP+ models at whim. Not to mention VAG world owning Bentley, Buggati, Lamborghini, Scoda, Seat, VW, and Audi.
The RS6 isn't even sold here in the states anymore, and M3's, RS4's, C63's etc. are a rarity in the states, relatively speaking. In Europe, however, they're a dime a dozen.
The executive saloon fully caught on in Europe decades ago. Now, 760iL's and S65 AMG's are their personal limousine to work and back. You surely don't see that here in the states.

I didn't buy my TSX to go fast, that's what my Ducati is for.
(Short hand for I can't afford it*@!)

Americans dont need 300 HP. They want 300HP. Technically, 140HP would probably be enough for the current TSX. That being said, the 4 Cyl is the better buy. Especially when you can get a Base TL for almost the same price as the V6 TSX. I think the V6 TSX was a mistake, but that's just my 2 cents.
I drive a 2010 TSX 6 Speed 4 Cyl and I sell Acura
