No doubt this car caters to a wider market. Great start, but obviously a few - 1500-2000 units??? were 08's being moved out at huge discounts? What's your best guess Colin?

No idea. I do know that none of our TSX sales were '08s since we were out of automatics in February. IMO watch for sales to dip next month as supply issues start to come up.

Acura Announces May Sales Results
All-New TSX Shattered Model's All-Time Sales Record
TORRANCE, Calif. - 06/03/2008
In its first full month of sales, the all-new 2009 Acura TSX posted its best month in the model's history with 4,564 units sold- topping the previous mark of 3,911 set in April of 2006. So strong are TSX sales that for the first time ever, it topped the monthly sales of TL and MDX. Acura sales for May were 14,893 units, down 9.9 percent based on Daily Selling Rate* while year-to-date sales totaled 65,458 units, down 13.8 percent compared to 2007.
"Even the luxury market appears to be taking a hard look at high fuel prices," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales. "Record sales of the all-new 2009 TSX indicate that its combination of a powerful and efficient i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine, bold styling and Acura's trademark driving character are what the market desires."
Eclipsing the previous best-ever TSX monthly sales record by 16.7 percent and shattering the previous May total by 53.7 percent, the totally redesigned 2009 TSX is proving popular right off the start. The all-new 2009 TSX is larger, more agile and more luxurious than ever before, raising the standards significantly for Acura's entry-level sedan. Major advances in handling, interior comfort, customer-relevant technology and safety features all contribute to the new TSX's appeal. Moreover, the TSX's improvements in fuel economy, along with a reduction in emissions are especially important considering today's high fuel prices. Strong initial sales of the 2009 TSX indicate that smart packaging and good fuel economy are of increasing importance to consumers.
The second-best selling Acura model in May was the TL performance luxury sedan, with 4,294 units. In addition, Acura light-truck sales for the MDX luxury SUV were 4,277 units, while the turbocharged RDX crossover SUV sold 1,368 units.

The Ody is rated at 16/23 or 17/25. So the mileage I'm getting isn't a surprise.
Still better than a SUV would be getting and the convenience is well worth it. Besides, not even 10K km's on her yet, so she's not fully worked in.
I'm an 05 TL owner. For the last three years when I serviced my car, I was given a TSX for a loaner. I always thought it was a fine car but at the end of the day I wanted and missed my TL. It had pep, handsome, and light. To my surprise they gave me an 09 TSX with the tech package when I took my car for service.
Honestly, if I were in the market for a car, I would seriously consider the new TSX. It's a pretty handsome car. The tech package is amazing. The sound system is phenomenal. It blows away the TL's sound system. I loved the iPod integration. My iPod has songs ranging from 128bit rate to 256. At a volume of 8 the sound was loud, clear, and crisp or all. I think the car uses noise cancelling type of devise because I could swear that when I the car came to a stop, the volume adjusted down by itself. It was a pretty neat trick. The nav system was okay. I couldn't figure out the voice activated part and some of the other functions. It did have the traffic and weather function. I guess one needs a day plus of playing with it to be more adepth.
The added torque was a plus. It was more noticible at lower speeds, basically city driving but not at high speeds.
The interior was well appointed. One thing (maybe because I'm used to the TL) I didn't really like was the plastic trim surrounding the console. In the TL it is aluminum trim. However, I can't begrudge that because if the TSX has all of the same amenities as the TL, what would be the difference?
The HP was adequate. The only thing is that the 4 banger strains a bit when trying to accelerate onto the highway. I was missing the 50+ horses that my TL has. However, once the car gets up to 60mph I cannot tell that it's a 4 banger. The engine is butter smooth.
All in all, I was very impressed with the car. I had it for a whole day. I can honestly say that I was hoping that I could keep it for another day or so. So I can see why this car is doing well on its initial sales. It directly appeals to people like me. I'm a young professional. I think of my self as relatively tech savy. I want a fuel efficient, handsome, and well appointed. I could careless about 300hp +. The new TSX hits all those points well.

Canadian May Sales
May car sales up, truck sales down - GM slides 20 per cent
Richmond Hill, Ontario – Sales of new passenger cars and light trucks were down by 0.5 per cent overall in May, but still ranked second-best for that month, according to a report by industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers. Total passenger car sales were up 6.1 per cent while total light truck sales were down 8.8 per cent.
“The ‘wows’ in the U.S. auto market don’t seem to be taking hold in Canada, which is truly amazing,” DesRosiers said. “Rarely does Canada go counter cyclical to the U.S. market for any length of time, and it has now been a couple (of) years. Looking at the breakdown of the Honda sales figures, the Civic for the month of May was the best selling car in the country. It was followed by the Camry, Corolla, and Accord. The Ford F-150, which was the perennial leader for several years is now relegated to number 5, and being pursued by the Nissan Altima.
It's impossible to draw conclusions from sales this month and even next month because there are multiple factors all contributing to one result; cheap '08s, new '09s, an ad campaign, and the price of gas adding to the apeal of 4 cylinder engines. Nobody has even demonstrated that the sales are above expectations so there's nothing to be learned from any of this, and so further the people who say this is affirmation that the "Power Plenum" grille and other revisions are well received by the public is laughable.
Um actually you can draw several conclusions from that one month of sales. First of all, chickens are coming home to roost. The era of the big-engined mass market automobile is over. Let me hear an "amen" from my fellow Greens (OK, a TSX is not really green, but it beats the shit out of a Northstar V8). Second of all, wow, did Honda see this coming, or what? Dayum, like the man said, the Civic was the best selling car in the country last month.

seems like copy and paste problem with the above stats whoever did the spreadsheet or is missing an 8 beside the 1 to reflect 18%
BMW 2,747 2,721 + 1.0
Honda 16,412 13,447 + 1.0 (this 1.0 is BMW's stat taken at face value but i think its missing an 8 to be 18%)
it should be 18 %
16412 - 13447 = 2965 (difference)
2965 / 16412 = .181 or + 18% increase
But then again I just finished work so my brain could be fried ..

My main gripe is that Acura killed the RSX/Integra, the CL and has stripped the TSX of some sportiness by making it larger and numbing the steering. The TSX is becoming less of a driver's car and more of a practical transport vehicle, like a better Camry or Accord.
The truth is I wanted a better Integra but I got a Euro Accord and I can't seem to ignore this fact. The thought crossed my mind of looking for a used RSX or Prelude but they've been out of production for a few years and are getting old. I like Hondas a lot and the thought of changing brands makes me puke up a little.

I kind of disagree that Honda saw this coming. Their philosophy has always been making the most fuel efficient and cleanest car they can. Regardless of gas prices. They stuck to that philosophy regardless of where the market was going . And now they reaping the rewards of sticking to the plan.
So while I'm sure gas prices were always in the back of their mind, I don't think their model lineup would have changed much if they truly know what was coming. In fact I'd argue they'd already have more presence with hybrids and diesels if they did.

Honestly , I am totally ok with a mcdonalds hamburger.
But i really see no reason to buy a 2009 TSX , I will probably be looking to buy a new car in a year or so to replace my 2005 TSX, but the way things are going I might just hold off since nothing seems as "right" as the 1G TSX was as far as being just balanced enough and just fun enough and good looking enough.
the 1G TSX was so well rounded its hard to beat. Most of the new cars are either unsporty, burn a lot more fuel for pointless straight line accelration, or in the case of something like the IS350 ... both.
