Trunk lid-torsion bar clip spring
HI htere,
Wanted to add to the knowledge base. The trunk has 2 torsion bars that assist in opening. They are kept separate from each other using a plastic trunk lid-torsion bar clip spring that costs about $7 for the replacement clip.
If the clip breaks, the torsion bars clang against each other while driving and you will hear noise from the trunk.
You can replace the clip of course.... BUT, I had great success today by using 1/4" clear vinyl hose I had lying around, cutting it in a spiral / longitudinal pattern and then wrapping it around the torsion bar so they don't bang against each other. I taped the ends so it wouldn't unravel (with duct tape). Working great so far.
