Trunk spring

One of the trunk spring bars (there are two) snapped in two so that the trunk will not stay open when lifted to the full open position.

I picked up the correct replacement spring and can't seem to be able to install it. It looks like an easy fix...just pop it in opposite the other spring. There doesn't seem to be enough tension to hold it in place.

Is the replacement spring bar supposed to be twisted thereby putting tension on it before it's snapped into place? If so, how does one twist the 1/4" metal bar? If not, what's the trick?

Yes, it's supposed to be twisted and snapped into place. DON'T try to do it by hand, there is a lot of tension in those. There's a special Honda tool to replace those.

I would either get the tool (~$20 online) or go to the dealer and see if a tech will do it for you. It only takes a few minutes.

Yeah...I thot so. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. We'll see how nice the stealership is today.

It's always funny how these "simple" jobs turn into something more costly.
