Trade 2010 TSX for 2011 Prius?

Her main priority is fuel efficency... second, join the hybrid bandwagon, and lastly, the smell of a new car.
on a sidenote, some more info about the car and her mods: 2010 black tech manual, oem visors, rear wing, h&r springs

Tell her you are going to trade her in for an upgrade.

It should be about saving money not saving gas. If the overall cost of ownership cheaper with the Prius II (down payment, monthly payment, gas, insurance, maint), I would go for it. She would be more green and save more money if she purchased a used Civic compared to a new Prius.
It cost $$$ to be green now days.

I agree with Mrgold. If i was you I'd definitely work out some numbers. From my point of view sounds like you guys may be losing money trading in the TSX for a Prius (i hate them). Do a comparison of mpg an see how long it'll take you to break even... to say the least. I havent actually crunched any numbers, but it seems to me at first thought, that it'll take you awhile to recoup the loss.

If you're going to sell the TSX, do it privately. There are many out there that would kill for your wife's TSX combo (6MT w/ tech). You could prob get at least $25-26k for it, depending on mileage.
As for the whole green thing, I agree with the other member about the costs of being green. It's not a good ROI, unless you're in it for the long haul. People get so emotional and hung up on the MPG thing... when in fact, many non-hybrids get decent gas mileage.
My wife-to-be traded in her beautiful '08 535i fully loaded for a Camry Hybrid. I tried not to cry when she did it...
I HATE the way hybrids drive too... makes it really hard to pull out quickly when you need to.

Yea but they're married so essentially his things are hers and vice versa. At least in my eyes of marriage. He should also get a say in what happens to the TSX (KEEP IT!)

Has she driven one already?
My wife had a civic hybrid, worse car ever! From 0 to 60 MPH took about 2 weeks! Hahaha When shifting lanes at @ I-95 you needed to look twice before doing it just in case, because the car lacks power (not that our TSX is a bullet)! Also, CVT transmission are super boring and I don't know where you are located but in winter time fuel economy is not the greatest. So, it all comes down to what she really wants because the trade won't cost effective.

Sadly for her, that included some of my debt.

These kinds of problems ceased when I did a passenger side wind bag delete 11/9/04.
But seriously, if you typically keep cars 5-7+ years, check on the price for a replacement battery for the hybrid synergy drive.
That might cure her.

i looked at trading my 2010 tsx v4-tech for a 2011 genesis coupe. my car had 9500 miles, and i only owed 12.5k on the car, they would give me 25,500$ at most. considering they wanted 27,900$ for the genesis coupe. i decided to walk considering my low .9 APR with acura vs 2.9 with hyundai would have cost me like 7,000$.

However, I don't know about you but I'm happy for as long as my wife is happy!!!! Hahaha so, at the end when my wife gets tunnel vision on something there's no way to make her understand otherwise! So good luck my friend!!!!

Was told from the Stealership that the synergy battery should last the life of the car . That was from the "he said, she said" conversation at a potential dealer. Either way, depending on the driver and conditions, that might hold true (100% in my wife's case).

Yes, but 35% of the TSX potential is like 65% on a Prius (give or take).

It depends on her priorities if performance is not an issue at all... but damn does it have to be a Prius? To each their own I guess but if she's coming from a manual and must have a hybrid, why not a CR-Z? Lol... I mean you certainly don't buy a Prius for looks. (IMHO)
Sure performance is not an issue now, but I think she is going to miss out atleast on the pickup and passing ability of the TSX, especially with any kind of uphill driving. My sister has an 06 Prius, and I swear, I think track runners can give it a run for it's money.
If the main priority is to be more fuel efficient, maybe a Ford Focus ST? Anyways, good luck on your Anti-Prius quest.

too late now but she should have bought the prius before she bought the tsx. I think since there is a loan to be paid on the tsx-keep it. This is coming from another female that would never give up manual transmission.

I could understand trading a truck or SUV in for a Prius, but it seems strange since the TSX already gets economy car-like mileage. Does she care at all about how ridiculously different the driving dynamics will be? She'll be bored to death driving a Prius. Is she perhaps tired of driving a manual?

update: Was at the dealer this afternoon waiting while she test drove the Prius. She came back 15mins later. Guess what??!! First thing came out of her mouth was "babe, i love it". Dealer quoted trade-in was $24090. Base PriusII (which is a downgrade from TSX in my opinion) with tax was $26650. She will decide on the "big picture" tonight.
What hurts the most is "honey, this is my decision, i dont want your involment" statement.
I guess if she's happy, I'm happy for her. another toyota joins the supra

I actually like the shape of those headlights since they dont have that bump we have on our headlights...of course they would look similar..the TSX is the Accord in Japan...same design direction/family tree...but you knew that right Ed?

Good luck with the Prius.
6MT Tech CBP are rare up here in Canada, I have yet to see another one in Metro Vancouver in the three years that I had mine. Will be even rarer now that they discontinued 6MT on Tech model for model year 2011 in Canada.
Do post pictures of your 92 Supra. The Mk III Supra was one of my favourite car growing up. They made just under 1200 of them in 1992.

good luck-since she is the one driving the car-she should be in one she likes. I personally am still very happy with my 06 tsx. It was picked out by me-
