TPMS sensor - how annoying is it to run without it?
Hey guys, I am just wondering how annoying it is to run without TPMS sensors.
Here in Canada I run 2 sets of tires - snow and summer. I have the stock TPMS sensors on my all-seasons, with I'm ridding and running summer (Hankook Ventus V12) and winter (i-pike) tires.
I was initially gonna get an extra set of TPMS sensors for the summer tires, but then TPMS sensors are pretty expensive.
I just wonder if I don't put TPMS sensors in the summer set, how annoying would the alarms and warnings be?
Is it just the yellow TPMS warning light on the dash? Or is it constant beep's and warning messages on the main center dash display reminding me the TPMS sensors are missing??
Realistically, I never turn off traction control in the summer, and I check my pressure every couple weeks anyways so I can live without TPMS sensors in the summer.
I just worry how annoying is the warning's gonna be.
Thanks!

So you just get a yellow TPMS warning light everytime you start the engine? No beep, no constantly have to turn it off?
I ask because I know if I'm low on fuel, when I start the engine I hear a beep, the low fuel light comes on side of the dash, but a second warning (taking up the center information display) constantly comes up in the middle as well. That's pretty annoying.

So does that come up once after traveling for 1-3km? Or does it come up EVERY 1-3 km that you have to acknowledge (Pressing the Up-arrow / "i" button)?
Mine is very annoying. One of my sensors is messed up and was taken out... I haven't replaced it for about 4 weeks or so ever since I got new tires, it also don't display any tire pressure and it says some error message. Will elaborate more later.
I've got a similar setup, except I'm the other way around. I've got the TPMS in the stockies running Nitto Motivos for summer and I have iPikes on steelies, without the TPMS, for winter. When you first start the car, the warning light comes on on the MID. You can "turn it off" essentially by scrolling though the MID using the steering wheel controls. The warning lights on the dash do not shut off. I have my steering wheel at the perfect angle as to not see them. I thought about getting TPMS sensors for the steelies, but it's really not that bad of an inconvenience. It it dinged or alarmed the whole time I might think otherwise, but it isn't too bad.

I see ... that doesn't sound too bad. So once I've 'turned off' the MID warning once it doesn't come up again until the next time I start the engine right?
I'd rather keep the TPMS for the winter tires because I heard you cannot turn off traction without the TPMS sensors, and I need to do that if i'm stuck in snow in winter ...

^You are correct about needing TPMS for traction control to work (off/on), so definitely need them on winter rims. The warning light gets tiring after a while.
You may want to look at getting RDX TPMS - 42753-STK-A04. Can get one for around $30 each in the states. They will work on the TSX.
I have 19" Hankook Ventus Evo V12 for summer also.

There's a fellow here in Vancouver that had them installed on his 09 TSX and it works perfectly.
A few of the forum member bought the 19" rim RDX accessory rims a few years back and their 2G cars read the TPMS that came with the rims without any problem.
Just an option for you to consider. Good luck.

I highly recommend getting the sensors for winter rims. Like Rob said, you can get them cheap on ebay, or try to negotiate with your local friendly dealer during winter tire specials around September. (some dealers in Canada had them for 50$ each).
One big advantage of our car's TMPS is that it is "self-learning" (there are individual "trigger antennas" for each tire's sensor) so no need to have someone re-program the system each season.. (unlike Toyota, some Lexus and the like...)

Running with no TPMS also does not allow you to turn off your VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) .. which really sucks!
I purchased an aftermarket set for my winter set, no problems. Good to go.
Do you remember which ebay ones you bought? I did a search on "42753-STK-A04" and there are tons of hits, but can't seem to find any that are 20$/ea new. Do you remember the name of the seller by any chance?
Thanks,
Eric

I bought mine from a fellow called "yourkeylessremote" - $79 for the set plus about $5 shipping. They came complete with "o"rings and the cap and were new.
same place/.
when i drive over 80 for any length of time one of them drops the signal or something......but a few minutes driving around town and it clears itself/ this is on the toll road with a 75 speed limit.
One of my OE sensors did that on my old car. Always in the same spot - must be some sort of interference.
intersting thought about a signal interference.......i always imagined it was the sensor and the way it is placed in my work wheels.......it rides in the center of the rim completely inside the tire......
regardless ..... i would still buy the same. price is right/

It was kind of like dropping a cell signal - sometimes you know exactly where it'll drop.
Thanks,
Eric
They were OEM, new, in OEM bags with the part number on the sticker holding the bag closed.
Someone local is selling rims with OEM TPMS sensors already installed: 42753-TL2-A52. Are these compatible with the 2009 TSX as well? Can they be paired to the car without reprogramming?
Thanks for any insight!

There are a gazillion threads on this. Most of us don't remember the specifics about the ones that will work but a quick search in the 2nd gen forum for "tpms ebay" yields the threads plus this one which has all the info you should need.

If anyone has a good Canadian parts supplier, would love to hear about it.
Thanks!
Eric
