Tinting

Thinking about tinting the windows on my new '10 TSX. Any suggestions on intensity, etc? I live in MO and know there are limits as to darkness. Who could do a good job? in StL? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can check the Regions tab up at the top of the page for suggestions in your area for shops.

+1

Main goal should be to have it be dark enough to look good but not too dark, otherwise it makes the car look cheap. Plus, no gangstas roll around in a TSX!

I did 35% on all my windows except the windshield and always get comps on it...

35% keeps you street legal in most states in the U.S., which is always a plus of course.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum.

Agreed with risc and ressling that 35% is a good percentage. I only tinted the back three windows @ 35% as it is not legal in BC to tint the fronts.

And ttk5, MO is the State of Missouri, I think you may be mixing up with the Province of Manitoba which is MB.

Tinting Laws

Do you have to comply with the tinting laws of the states you drive through or just the state that your car is licensed in?

Could be a big problem if you drive through one of the more restrictive state like Vermont.

Thanks

I think 35% are probably the best tint. It's not too dark but dark enough. Just my $0.02.

When I do get mine tinted, I'm doing 20% on the back window and 35% on the sides.

Not sure but I would imagine that it's up to an individual officer's discretion...

i need to tint my windows big time. i live in nyc. i think the law is 30% here but anyone know for sure?
is 30% better or 35% better? I like my windows more on the darker side.
i had a maxima with illegal tints and i did get ticket for it once. i dont want to go through that again.
i forgot what % tint i had on my windows though.

I have 20% all around on my 2010 TSX. I typically use DALO on Manchester in Ellisville. Legal is 35% but the only cops the fret about it is the MO State Troopers. And if they're bored with NOTHING else to do, they will pull you over for it. If you do a lot a driving where you see State Troopers on the regular, just remember to leave your sunroof shade open to help let a little light in.

hmm i am thinking of doing tints too, and was aiming at around 35% all, but our car came with stalk tints right? so should i tell the shop to take them off then do 35%? or tell them to add on so that it all adds up to 35%?

Our glass is greenish tinted at the factory (part of tempered glass manufacture process), it's not a film you can remove.

My back three windows are 35% tinted.

oh that sux, NY mandates 70%, the highest in the country.
i had a maxima with 35% or 40% not sure, and in 9 years only got one ticket for the tints. the cop told me that i had to remove the tints but i never did. he was just an a hole with nothing better to do.

I ran 20% all the way around. It is a little dark but I like it. I think it looks a little darker on a black car with black interior.

I just got my 2010 TSX almost a month ago in black and I want to tint it the whole way round except the windshield. Back in October Illinois finally made it legal to have 35% the whole way round. Before it was up to 50% and only the rear and back quarter windows could be tinted. Now I'm trying to find a good tinting shop to take it to. Any suggestions for the Chicagoland area?

You might try asking this in the Regions section so you can get recommendations specifically for your area.

I used to live in the Chi burbs. I worked for a wrecker/towing service, and we always got tints done at a place called CarriageWerks, out in Mundelein/VernonHills. Nice small shop that always did a great job in my opinion.

you really need to look at the different tints yourself and make a suggestion. what someone else likes, you may not. For me, I have 5% all the way around and I love it. I'd go double if I could but I dont want to spend 2x the $

I'm a big fan of the 35% , here's mine. I took the pics with my cell phone so the clarity isn't that good, it looks awesome in person, especially when it's nice and sunny outside. Compare these to Lumryan's 15%
