Is there a more powerful version coming?

Ok, so I once saw it listed on TOV as being released "soon". I saw a thread here mentioning it with the posibility of AWD but lately no one has mentioned it. It there a more powerful (V6?) version of the TSX coming in the near future? Or is the more powerful version the diesel? I have really warmed up to the new design but I am hesitant to buy one until I find out what the near (next 6 months) holds. Does anyone know anything?

Type-S RPh.....I am still confident that the TSX will be coming out with something a bit more powerful than the current 4 banger. I hear, from a reliable source at an Acura dealership that a an announcement would be made this fall when the TL would be released about a higher output version of the TSX but was told the the SH-AWD would NOT be added to the TSX. I can't confirm that myself but for those who have been craving a higher output TSX, that may be the news that they were hoping for. Despite knowing that this MAY come out sooner than later, I still went with the 4 cylinder as it provides enough oummph for I what I need to do with the TSX, more economical and that 4 banger is probably the best one on the market as far as 4 cylinders are concerned.

The TSX with a V6 is called a TL; you'll never see one. And AWD would make the TSX too expensive IMO. However, the turbo 4 would make perfect sense on an S-type version... if it ever happens. Later.

Regarding the Diesel: I've been reading that the TD will probably be released on the 2010 model in Fall of next year. What still isn't clear to me is why the holdup?

VW is already getting a clean Diesel to market, so I'd assume it's in Acura's best interest to get it here ASAP. I figure the timeline is due to one or several of a few things: 1) They've just decided to roll it out with a new model year. 2) The US spec DTEC engine with emissions system is not quite ready to go, and won't be ready for production until then. 3) The AT for Diesel is the holdup (I remember reading about a AT for Diesel coming for Europe next year).

I just hope to see the Diesel TSX sooner rather than later, but it looks like Fall 2009 is most likely at this point. But what do I know, could it debut earlier... like early 2009? Comments?

Judging by the lack of a 6AT for the new TL, I'll go with #3. You just can't sell a sedan in the US with only an MT. We know the diesel puts out a lot of torque and we know there is no 4 cylinder tranny that can handle that much.

i seem to recall someone saying there wasn't enough room underneath the 2GEN for a SH-AWD tranny. But I'd bet on the turbo-diesel appearing in a new model over a simple V6. As the entry level sedan, this would be a good model for Acura to intro' the new engine.

I was just talking with the owner of the dealership I got my TSX at and they said the diesel version probably won't be available until next year, so fall 2009 isn't a bad guess.

I think an interesting Type-S would be one with the S2000 motor in the TSX.

The lack of an auto tranny for the diesel is the hold up.

take it with a grain of salt

Had my TL in for some service last week and took a minute to grab a Coke and check out the new TSX. The dealership manager and my salesman stopped out to chat (manager used to be a neighbor). I am anxiously awaiting the diesel to replace the wife's 2007 Accord V6 gas hog.

During the discussion they both told me there is a V-6 coming in April 2009 and the diesel is arriving in fall 2009. They already have a deposit for a diesel. I was surprised to hear about the long wait for the diesel but even more suprised to hear about the V-6.

I don't put a lot of stock in what dealers know but thought I would at least share what I have heard. Up to you how much stock to put in it.

Now that the TL comes with 3.5 and 3.7L V6s, I personally think a 3.0 or 3.2 V6 TSX would be a great car. Especially if they firm up the suspension and sharpen the steering.

If the more powerful version ever makes it to the market, I will buy one.

I can't see myself driving the new TL, just too big IMHO. I'd love to have a G2 TSX with about 240-260HP and a TRUE manual transmission.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd actually prefer the K23T but anything in the 240-260hp range and i'd buy a new TSX. The new TL is really pushing it in size for me.

There's a 6-sp manual already, and felt pretty good to me. Or did I miss your point?

As others have said, if they put a 3.0-3.2 V6 in there with the same slick 6-spd manual, I'll have a hard time staying out of the dealership.

If its the turbo four, forget it. I've already got one in my RDX, and its enough to make me never want to buy another low displacement turbo mill.

They just want the more powerful version to definitely have a stick, that's all.

not all dealer information are trustworthy but they mentioned about two engine choices. one is turbo diesel and another is v6 (either 3.0 or 3.2). but no 2.3ivtec turbo and sh-awd. also they'll be discontinuing the current 4 banger. but who knows only time will tell

I am not surprised at all by what you are saying as I have heard the same thing earlier this summer and reported it here a while back...and received with some skeptism of course....

I don't doubt any of the V6 rumors. But the possibility now exists that they changed their mind in the face of higher gas prices and decided the 4 and diesel are enough.

Production constraints may play a part as well. If they can only make 40-50K for NA and are on pace to sell that, why add a V6?
