Simple Service and maintenance question..

Hi all!! Been a long time!

Anyways... I have 13 Acura TSX and have around 23,000 miles and have A1 service indication light on (15%).
I will take the car to the dealership this time for such service.... Yeah I know... but I always take it to the dealer just for engine oil change and filter change because I live in apartment.
The A1 service just includes Engine oil, tire rotation, check tire pressure and etc... and realized now that A1 service doesn't require engine oil filter change.

So, should I skip engine oil filter change this time around? I always changed the oil filter every time but realized that A1 doesn't necessarily need such change.

And, I will be going to SF from LA round trip... and this trip will take me about 900~1100 miles...

What you guys think?

and this there other things should i check before I leave for this short trip??

thanks!

Why do you think you don't need a filter change?

You can get your service done at a Honda dealer at a cheaper price. All current Hondas and Acuras use the same oil (0w20) and the same filter.

Change your filter along with your oil.

He doesn't think he needs an oil filter change because Acura does not require it for 2nd Gen TSX "A" service, according to the owner's manual. Stupid and short sighted on Acura's part. Probably done to show a lower cost of total ownership and maintenance.

I think every other auto manufacturer has maintenance schedules that require an oil AND filter change.

I agree with CEB -- always change the filter with the oil.

Now, the real question is whether to use the A01 or A02 filter!

Ask the dealer what the two separate services cost - an oil change (with filter change) and a tire rotation. That may well be cheaper. Also, call the local Honda dealer and ask the same question (A-1 plus cost of individual services). In DC, the A1 runs about $125, an oil change is $69 and a rotation $20 at the local Acura shop. Aa A-1 at the Honda place is $99, oil changes are $59 with the same $20 for the rotation - so roughly half the price of your quoted A-1. Most dealers will also match other dealer coupons. Here is an Acura A1 service for $80

I have my friendly dealer handle my service and repairs. BUT I provide the synthetic oil and Honda A01 filter, which I buy in bulk. So the parts cost me about $35 and the dealer charges $20 labor. The service manager doesn't mind as I have been a longtime customer and it does all the other maintenance and repairs.

I think $125 is on the high side for A1, as it is mostly an oil change and tire rotation. The rest are inspections. Check if your dealer has specials, or if it will accept coupons from other nearby Acura dealers and price match. I think ballpark is around $80-100.

My dealer routinely offers the A/B1 service for $59.85 (always includes new filter).

well, i have always done this... I paid engine oil change and filter change which cost me about $60 at the dealership. But then, my dealership does multi-inspection for check up for free... then I go to my local mechanics for tire rotation for $15...

I am just going to go to the dealership until my warranty runs out... which is next year... and i am going to start buying my own engine oil and filter and take it to close mechanics...
