A simple Deck Lid Spoiler ends in a loaner car

Okay so this is a new one. I had my car brought to the service department today to have them install a simple Deck Lid Spoiler and they'd throw in a wash/vac as a favor. Awesome, get it done...

Well 2 hours later, as quoted I go to get my car and the deck is scratched like a child decided to draw on it with a metal pipe.. and the spoiler was kinda crooked. Okay, so they take it back in and "make it better" but upon closer inspection the wash it received must have been with rocks because the entire car has little surface scratches in it.

Okay now 3 hours total and I leave the dealer pissed off with a 2010 TSX loaner. Now I am just waiting to hear back on the work, but just wanted to share/vent. I'll be posting photos before/after and the dealership in question once everything is taken care of. If its not, well i'm going to be pissed.

Oh and those curious, the car is 8 days old and never had a wash/rub/wax or scratch on it thanks to my careful care of my beautiful 2011 CBP TSX. Should have just driven it through a giant bush and low-grade car wash.. ugh!!

Thanks for listening.
Matt

Update: This just gets better. Now they have to keep the car longer because it will damage the spoiler if they try to move it. I have a feeling I am going to lose my mind with this simple task! I'm also concerned the car trunk will have "results" of this somehow simple mod gone horribly wrong!

ouch. i remember reading that they have to drill 4 holes on the trunk to secure it.

what if there's like 40 holes underneath?!

broski, i feel your pain, i ALWAYS refuse the optional car wash. sometimes they do it anyway and it drives me insane because i baby the finish as much as i can, once they did it anyway and so they gave me my service for free ~_~

to install the decklid spoiler the dealer drills 4 holes AND uses 3M tape and they also install a new trunk spring to handle the load of the extra weight.

people that install it by themselves or install aftermarket replica decklids skip the trunk spring, but the manufacturer follows all steps, and they most certainly drilled 4 holes in your trunk.

if it is that horrid then they will be replacing your trunk for you. enjoy your loaner

I have since learned the "FREE car wash" will end in tears, unless its hand washed by the damn owner.

Oh and for those curious.. Herb Connolly of Framingham.

LOL. I'll take anything free from a dealer I can get. If they mess something up, they get to fix it, period. I've been taking my Acuras to my dealer since 2004, and they always wash them, and never had a problem. Not every dealer is as careless as mkeefe's.

Well it looks like the service tech wants to make this right, is installing the deck spoiler again, cost on them. I just get to keep the loaner for a couple more days.. still wow.

@fxcarden - I only have had this one experience, but am leery to say the least.

I would highly recommend that you find a professional detailer to look over the car and give you an estimate to fully correct the paint or even see if it is correctable. I personally have never seen a dealership correct the paint on a car the way a professional detailer does.

@mtdew456 - I will be looking over the car on Monday, if required I will bring a professional with me. I am NOT leaving the lot with that car until its done right, safer and harder for them to "forget about me".

Yes, this is a terrible story, I'm sorry it happened to you. Most people actually don't know what detailing is, they think it's just a car wash. When I first got my TSX, there was a stain on the hood so the manager had somebody "detail" it. Man, all they did was rub it off, and I could see the scratch in the clear coat.

Back then I didn't know what detailing was either, and I couldn't articulate what I saw to them, so I just took it back as is. Luckily I know a little more now and it was nothing a little Scratch-X couldn't get rid of.

I hope everything works out as smoothly as possible for you. I hate having to fight and expend energy for something that should be rightfully yours.

Well as you know I live in the same area as you. I bought my 1g TSX from herb connolly acura. That place is horrible the only place i deal with when it comes to acura is Prime Acura in walpole after a couple horrible experiences i started making the Drive out to prime. They go above and beyond on anything ive ever asked them to do and i couldnt be happier with them! Herb connolly is a joke and i hope you rake them over the coals for this bullshit!

Man, I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your car. I've had my fair share of stealership mess, and it really sucks.

Ecko508 - I actually bought the car from Prime Acura and sadly was excited to see a dealer closer.! Big mistake, I'll do the drive next time for sure.

You better believe this will be made right, I'm not letting Herb Connolly get away with this one.!

If the installer is not used to drill templates, you won't get a good fit. Get your new trunk and have it installed at another acura dealer.

Prime Acura is light years better than herb Connolly you'll find that out right when you walk in the door. I've owned an Acura for 6 years a 1g TSX from herb Connolly and now a 2g TSX which I bought from prime. The drive is well worth it for quality service. And not to mention there loaner cars are 2010 TL tech packages I hope this gets resolved I'll never forget when I bought my 1g TSX from them with 13,000 miles and one of the stipulations was the repainted the front bumper because of some scratches and marks from which looked like highway miles. Brought it in took them 2 days to do it got it back and they didn't repaint it they used touch up paint on the little scratches and pebble marks. Needless to say that dealership remembers my face and I hope they remember yours!

Update: Checked out the car on Saturday afternoon and it was spotless, though the spoiler was not installed and I saw the holes (only one set) they were required to drill. I am waiting for a call back from the dealership to go pick up my damn car!

I am now missing a partial day of work, had to gas their loaner and of course be without my BRAND NEW car.. ;( - Compensation will be mentioned, to say the least.

Man that sucks Matt. I feel your pain though. I just got an 09 TSX and had to bring it back to dealership for them to detail it to perfection since they didn't have time the day I bought it...brought it in on Tuesday and they somehow lent out all the loaners so to compensate for making me go all the way out there for nothing, he offered me a free detailing later on. Next day I come back and I get the loaner but supposedly all the work would take 1 to 2 days. Now it's been 5 days and I want my car back! I wouldn't be this anxious if they hadn't told me 2 days.

Okay so I got the car back, the deck lid looks good, the trunk is not scratched anymore, everything looks good...

EXCEPT
...
..
.

Someone scratched the door and tried to touch up the area, but it looks like sh*t. Now the dumbasses at Herb Connolly are saying it wasn't touched up by them because "no paint was checked out by parts" well I don't f*cking care, it wasn't scratched on Friday at 10 am, it wasn't scratched when I inspected the deck on Friday afternoon. Now on Monday its scratched? Well unless ninjas came in and scratched the car, then touched it up I think its possible they did it.

At this point i'm out of words, I used them all up in the waiting room of the dealer, I have them trying to "fix" the scratched part, but I know and you know it isn't going to look good as new ever again. I wouldn't trust Herb Connolly with the changing of my socks, let alone touch my car ever again. I highly recommend you look at other dealers, even if they are an hour or more away. You've been warned, Herb Connolly of Framingham sucks a**!!!

Thanks,
Matt

I actually have before/after of the scratch (of course) but also the horrible washing job they provided to my car. As well as various witnesses that have seen my car.

Thankfully the touchup paint being properly applied is making it better.. but still omfg!!
