Not that MSN Auto is the authority on anything but this is the perception of the non enthusiast market.
On the enthusiast side, many won't want a modded car because it isn't "theirs."

The only exception might be a few very conservative cosmetic mods as long as they look OE - like your painted door handles or vinyl'd roof rails.
Some of these types of cosmetic mods may not get you more value but may help the car sell faster because it looks "upscale OE sporty"
yup i get it ceb. i kept the stock handles too but thats something that most buyers will not even notice........heck the acura dealer hardly notices/
like I said keep all that stock stuff.

Perception is reality. Right or wrong, modified = beat to hell. Also, when I was looking for a used car when I was in college, I looked at the tires and the brand. I always thought if the seller was struggling financially, then they would usually let things go a little longer or used cheap parts. Who knows....maybe they skipped an oil change or two.

Same.
Agree 100%. I don't want someone else's heavily modded car. I don't want to mod the car much myself, so why would I want someone else, with suspect capability, to do it for me?
A couple mild bolt ons might be excused if they are high quality (Comptech stuff on an NSX, for instance, or different OEM equipment like Porsche turbo wheels on a Boxster) but absolutely no cosmetic mods, and ideally if you left your bolt ons on I want the OEM stuff too in case I decide to go back to stock.
Most of the time I solve this problem by buying new.
