Revmatching Downshifts in Sequential Manual Mode
Revmatching Downshifts in Sequential Manual Mode
Let me tell you... I looked super hard for a manual second gen TSX. I just couldn't find one that made sense for me to buy. So I ended up with a 2011 automatic K24.
I like to use the paddle shifters in the shiftable/sequential (S) mode quite often to control the gear I am in. Upshifting is fine, no problem there. However, there is a big lurch on downshifts. I have tried blipping the throttle on downshifts and that makes the downshift really smooth and eliminates the lurching, plus it is fun to do once in awhile. I've done it once in awhile over the past few months and the transmission seems okay with it. I'm wondering how bad it is on the transmission to blip the throttle or not blip the throttle on downshift. Does it cause extra wear if I blip the throttle on downshifts? Does it cause burnt transmission fluid? Should I not downshift at all? Is it okay if I do it once in awhile?
Thanks in advance.

probably overthinking it.
you can always change the fluid if you're scared you're burning the fluid...or if you're really scared, you probably shouldnt do it...
the only thing i have broken on my 6MT j32 is motor mounts by not blipping the throttle or downshifting too aggressively.

I'm really just wondering how I should use the shiftable mode to inflict the least amount of damage to the transmission.

Yeah, the car seems to be more okay with the throttle blip on downshift than just downshifting without it. I don't use the sequential mode all that often and I rarely downshift, but when I do I just blip the throttle to smooth the downshift. Am I supposed to not downshift at all?? I feel like that's what the car really wants me to do.

The 5-speed transmission on that K24z3 is a robust gearbox. With my 2012 TSX wagon, I frequently use the down paddle in normal driving mode to smoothly use engine braking when approaching a stoplight. I don't blip the go pedal almost ever. I don't think you are abusing the transmission either way.
I don't see any harm in it although I don't do it myself. When I am in normal drive mode and paddle down to 2nd gear to engine brake, the transmission resets to normal when I have come to a stop...no need to shift manually to 1st.
