Real HID driving lights? Or just talking bulbs?

Hey all,

I keep seeing references to HID driving/fog lamps here & there. Is there such a thing as an HID lamp assembly that would fit our cars and not what people are calling "HID looking" bulbs for the stock housings?

I'm confused.

TIA

well there are of course HIDs which some people replace for their driving lights which consists of the HID bulb connected to a ballast. Since we have the OEM ballast for low beams, we can just replace it with a HID bulb.

There are of course halogen bulbs which has the HID look.

for example, i replaced my fog lights with HID fogs in which included the bulb and the ballast. for my high beams, i only replaced it with halogen with the HID look which matches my low beam HIDs so at night, its just a flood of white light

Thanks for the reply.

So like on yours, you did an HID conversion kit that replaces your halogen with a real HID bulb & ballast.

Got it.

But, is there such a thing like a fog/driving light assembly from another car like the MDX or RDX that is an HID fog assembly from the factory?

I believe not. I guess what you are asking that if the MDX or RDX come ready with a HID fog assembly? If that is the question, Then no, its the same halogen bulb like ours. I bought the HID fogs because it was definitely a lot brighter than a halogen but its just more like a cosmetic thing.

same way for any other car. Buy an hid kit made for the bulb type. It's a simple swap task.

Welcome to the forums. You should head over to the TL section for TL-specific questions.

you may want to read this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-in...discharge_lamp

I believe HID's are based on lumens, measured in K's...

It also depends on the housing...

like 3000K HID. The higher the K's, the more "blue" the light will look.

It was a hot topic among 4th gen Maximas back when I had my 2003.

What color temperature HID would match the factory low beams? Would 4300k or 5000k be a closer match?
