'Quickie' Video Up
Ok so my thread title isn't as good as "where's the wood" but it gets the idea across. I just put up a fast video from the larger project I've started. Download from my site: www.satoauto.com

never noticed how small the taillights look and how high they were.
or how huge the back bumper looks.

Of course, now I'm VPN'ed to work with my own laptop, but I'm in a public place and can't play with the sound up (is this even an issue?).

What I'd correct on the next shoot. => Pull the moonroof visor, let some natural light in there (shifting as the car travels). That always looks romantic/evocative, particularly in nice weather. => Don't "undercrank," it makes the car look like it handles differently than it does at that apparent speed. (I.e., don't speed up footage shot at 45 mph to look like 90, the car will fail to float naturally. It looks Chaplinesque, or like the BIRTH OF A NATION horse chase scenes.)
Though, I think the last time-elapsed/undercranked shot is gorgeous, good as anything I've seen. Worth the patience and effort it surely took to capture.
=> Oh, and ... don't show yourself plugging a cord into the armrest that looks like it's coming out of your pants. Put the "device" in view.

I wanted to get a shot of me driving through the open sunroof but didn't have the time to rig it. I'm also limited to how many miles I put on a brand new car that will have to be sold. (I also am reluctant to 'throttle' it for that reason). So I'm left with the fact that cars driving slow look boring to most people so the velocity envelope allows me to get some speed to match the tempo change in the music.
As for plugging in the USB, its not like I was plugging in an ohmibod!

Ok the original video was made in 2 hrs at 2am. I've gone back and 'polished' it up a bit. (however, I did not fix the ipod part for david) but I think the video is better. I've re-encoded it for a little better quality, moved the titles over the sunset scene.

I noticed last night (and the night before) after driving a 2000 Jetta for a coupla days, the 2004-2008 dash has a curvy theme that is reflected in the instrument cluster hood ... which precisely matches the steering wheel rim ... which is clearly echoed in the airbag/horn cover. Three concentric semi-circles btween and above my hands.
Idea for a shot ... sit in seat, recline all the way, then have a cameraman (woman) position camera on your chest for a true POV shot. I hafta go back and look at the new wheel, dash, but I wonder if Acura designers continued this sly touch.

Pretty good job! I'm a New Media designer for my company and mainly do 3D work, but now (since end of 07) I do video work as well, so pretty impressed with your work

Put the camera on your nose? (Hubby-made tripod.) Maybe have to lower the driver's seat and shoot through the left rear fold-down rear seat from the trunk, zoomed. I have a WA lens for my Fuji E900, dunno if it would fit your application (43mm?).

Sony's use 37 mm for lenses. I usually use my suction cup mount on the moonroof to get drivers POV shots. I tried it and didn't like most of what was shot so I used only one clip. I'm going to try again later but it won't go into this video. Actually shooting in a moving car is extremely difficult. You are always dealing with extremes in exposure. If I had more money, I could gel the windows but.........

Wow, I've been accused (elsewhere) of making a commercial video for monetary purposes:
"I would speak with Jonathan since your promoting a product to make sure your ok with his creative commons settings for that song."
I don't see it that way since I never mention 'call me" or even have my e-mail included. What do you think? Is this a commercial or a enthusiast video?

Depends on if you use the music just for personal use, or if it's part of a business concern. But I understood it to be a home-grown video, for sharing with others.
Lemme know if you need a phaser set on stun. I keep one in the glovebox for these occasions.

In the process of making this finished video, I was inspired to use some of the clips in a driving video set to "Drive" I'm such a 'car geek' that I was always amazed that nobody used your song for car club stuff. Anyway, someone commented that it looks like I'm selling something in the video. I'm not selling anything beyond the love of driving a nice car on a twisty road and possibly your music.
Rest assured, when I do complete the video brochure (which is selling something) I will be using a music bed that I create with Cinescore. I respect what you've done and if you feel that my video is inappropriate I will remove it from youtube immediately. It was not my intent to infringe in any way, and in all honestly, it never occurred to me that it could be considered a commercial product. I'm just a car nut that happens to sell cars. Hey Colin,
As long as that video is not connected with selling something (it's not a commercial for the car, or the dealership), I'd say that's fine. You would have done that video even if you didn't sell cars for a living, I think is what you're saying. Thanks for asking though - not everyone does!

Colin...Thanks for your video and great site!! I do like the 09 alot, which is why I am exchanging my 2006. I am not sure why so many dislike the 2009? I am wondering if its partly because of the big disapointment about the lack of turbo or V6? I would have been so curious to see what the raction would have been on the exact same car should the engine would have been different and a SH-AWD available at launch (Although I doubt the grill would have been liked anyway...still working on that but doing much much better now)

Another customer (65+ retired) that I originally helped with a '98 Integra, is also loving his new TSX (auto, tech). Naturally he's having a harder time with all the tech, but he's got his iPod working in the car, is loving the HIDs and the back up camera.

I've been busting my butt to finish up my video for the TSX but since we've been selling a bunch of cars this week, its slowed my progress down.
I did finish up my newsletter and got those 4500 pieces mailed out so now the pressure is really on to finish up the full video (the newsletter directs readers to the site).
The newsletter articles are mostly versions of the content on the website, but if you want to download a copy, you can get them all here: Newsletters
This static page resides on my old site and there are still a few active links, check out this old one from the original TSX Ride and Drive (you can't navigate to this page easily anymore)
