Question on interior trim 09/10 vs 11/12

This is what I thought to be true but now I'm confused

09/10 silver dash trim, silver window switch bezels and dark metal door levers.

11/12 dark metal dash trim, dark print window switch bezels, silver door levers.

looking through the pics on AZ, I saw an 09 with silver trim and silver door levers. So i'm confused, please provide input

I saw one of those and figured it was aftermarket. Nobody but Honda/Acura does fake wood anymore.

Every one of those (at least the first three that I can see - I'm not sure about the red x's) is real wood.

Toyota, Chevy and Ford may use fake wood but EVERY luxury marque uses real wood. It may be wood veneer over a plastic trim piece to comply with crash regs but it is real wood. Honda/Acura uses fake wood. Even the stuff in the RL is fake until you get into the Advance trim. Even the RL tech uses fake wood.

Modern automotive woods are all veneers covered in a thick layer of some sort of polyurethane or other protectant to keep the UV from damaging the finish and to make the finish look deeper. They are veneers because a slab of wood would never pass crash tests.

Even the days of Cadillac using fake wood are long gone. It seems the lone holdout is Acura.

Hmm. I dont know why I questioned you, whenever you say something on here you seem to either have had experience with it in the past, or done your homework to every detail.

I wouldn't have thought that the wood is actually a veneer. IMO that's too much work for something ugly. To me its just tacky and something an old fancy lady would like in her car. This is why I vinyled over mine as soon as I could. I tend to have non mainstream views most of the time though.

(There are only 3 pictures, sorry about the x's. I guess that one site didnt like their images being linked.)

Hmmm. Thanks for calling me anal retentive

Actually, I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken....

In reality, I am wrong a lot and there are tons of things I don't know about (but then I try to shut up and lurk - not always possible and that gets me into trouble)

The wood thing is funny. Brit and German cars started using wood as a luxury feature when cars started being mainly metal. In the 70's the US jumped in with horrible fake wood that had absolutely no resemblence to the real stuff but they figured that the US consumer was just too stupid to know better. In the 80's, most every luxury wannabe had fake wood.

In the 90's, US cars went back to wanting to use wood but realized that wood doesn't pass muster, so the wood veneer over a plastic panel was developed and is now used virtually exclusively throughout the world. Jaguar and Mercedes still match pieces of wood veneer to match as does Bentley and RR, but Acura is alone in keeping with fake wood.

Wood supposedly imparts the feel of luxury which is why it is still used in cars. It is the whole "fine furniture" feel that manufacturers are going for.

I tend to like a bit of wood in my car so I have something to knock on instead of my head but most cars have the interiors slathered with wood - if a little is good, then more is better. If more is better then much more is much better.

I think that Acura did the wood quite well in the older generation TSX - had it been real wood.

A lot of the look depends on interior color and the color of the wood. A nice gray birch or piano black with a black interior is quite nice - as is a nice rich burl with a medium brown interior.

In the pictures, the Audi has the right amount of wood and the Infiniti is just way overdone.

If anyone has a spare set of interior bits that I'd like to buy them and veneer them myself.
