question about setting for our HID headlight

I was wondering what is headlight setting for everyone. Auto or manual. I used set Auto all the time, but someone said your HID will break earlier due to sudden on and off. Is this ture?

it wont break.

it will just wear faster, meaning you'll probably have to replace the bulbs within 1000 hours, instead of 10000 hours.

the auto function is there for a reason, if Acura didnt see it lasting they wouldnt have implemented an auto sensing headlight.

do whatever is convenient to you.

I'm no pro, but auto does allow the HID to be on more, thus more usage of the bulb.

I think that AUTO is just a feature, not necessarily a function of the bulb. I would prefer manual.

All bulbs have life, the more you use it, the quicker you'll have to replace.

HIDs will fail more with an increased in cycles of on/off. The reason why it would more likely fail on Auto is if its nighttime and you unlock your car to get something, the headlights will come on. Then lets say you leave and relock the car, the lights will turn off. This constant turning on of the lights for a few seconds will gradually burn out the bulb faster. Also, if you go through tunnels where there's instances of low light, the sensor will detect it and turn on the HIDs and then when you come out from the tunnel, it'll shut off.

I believe Halogen bulbs are different. Their failure rate is due more to length of time used vs # of cycles used.

I use auto. Premature wear issues are irrelevant to me as I lease and thus am always under warranty. Not having to turn on and off the lights is one less task for me to do. If there is someone or something out there willing to do something for me instead of me having to do it myself, I let them (it) do it. Now that we have self-parking cars, I have read that we are supposedly 5 years away from the first self-driving car. That will be a boon for me.

I have mine set to on at all times, along with the foglights. I prefer the look of them on and I have a lease so the burden of replacing will fall on the dealer, though I am installing hid bulbs I bought from ddmtuning so I guess those will be on me to replace, but at 15 bucks a pair, it's worth it
