Premium gas! Really?
Since I live in NJ and they apparently think we are incapable of pumping our own gas, we have to rely on morons to pump it. Last fill up when I got my receipt I was thinking wow, why was it so cheap? The moron put regular in. So the car not only doesn't have the same pickup it used to, it also is getting about 3 MPG less on the regular, I can't wait for this tank to be done. Car recommends premium for a reason. To those that have been running regular the whole time, put a tank of premium in and you will see a difference, the higher compression of these engines causes the ECM to retard ignition quite a bit to take care of the knocking...

Initially, it was thought that pumping gas required skills to keep cars from blowing up. That went away when the first self-serve stations started to appear. That clearly no longer applies.
Municipalities now keep those rules around for economic reasons of increasing employment. If you are required to have pump attendants, then you can't get a cut rate station that undercuts prices by going self-serve.
NJ has cheap gas anyway - even with the gas jockeys.
So on this topic - who remembers green stamps?
I remember when I was in New Jersey back in like December, my uncle and me were in the Tsx. I was driving, needed gas and so we stopped at the gas station, got out quick and started filling up my own gas... You quickly forget even though you're there for a week.
The gas pump attendant issue has a long history but boils down to two things - only one of which may apply today.
