Premium gas! Really?
Premium gas! Really?
Ok new to acura. Had numerous honda 4 bangers that ran fine on reg gas. Are they hiding a turbo somewhere or what? Will it start pinging under normal driving or just when some dork revs it to 7G.
I kind of wonder this myself to be honest. Also, the salesman at the Acura dealership says regular is fine, but I think that's just his opinion and not really something Acura personally told him. He also said he had leased a TSX SE and I assume that is what he used. But on the other hand he said he just leased a new Acura every 2 years, so it's not like he really cared about how reliable it would be long term.
The main difference is between "required" and "recommended". I might consider using a full tank of regular to see if I notice any difference. I'm on my first tank of premium since owning the car and currently am averaging 25 MPG all city, 300 miles, still have a quarter of a tank, I think.

For the standard configuration and somebody who dosen't even go past 3k rpm ever.... regular is fine.
Our compression ratio is 11-1, it will knock on regular.....period...... causing the timing to be retarded and loosing gas milage and performance so the $2.00 per fill up you save on regular is lost and long term engine damage is possible, timing is retarded after it knocks so it will see some knock every time you accelerate.

Hell, if it was $2-3 per full tank, there would be nothing to talk about.
How many threads about gas are gonna be made? Lol it's your car use what you want... It blows up it blows up... Your car, your issue... I run 93 in all my cars because at the end of the day money isn't an issue ....
That part is incorrect! You will get better MPG on regular. However don't expect any excitement from the accelerator pedal. I have proven this on every Honda I had "I have owned quite a few" with the exception of my V6 TSX that requires 93 octane. The best compromise for MPG & performance on the models that does not requires premium is Mid-Grade.

Anytime you retard ignition to prevent detonation, you are losing power and efficiency. These engines are designed for premium and CAN run regular if needed. It retards ignition timing to do so.
But hey, feel free to cause premature wear and tear on your engines. Go grab some 85 octane from Colorado and have fun!
