Angry Passenger mirror on 2013 TSX - need input

Somehow - and I have no idea how - the bottom corner of my passenger side mirror glass was broken. No scratches on the housing or any problem with the housing. Motor works fine.
So I ordered the mirror glass assembly from the dealership and asked if an auto glass place could install if I couldn't get back to the dealership. They said yes.
Then the starter needed replacing, so since I was going in, I asked them to install the piece I ordered from them. Now they have come back to me and said it is impossible to replace the mirror glass, that they will have to replace the entire assembly for over $600.
Does anyone have experience with this and know if that is correct? That seems a bit bizarre that they could order this part for me, though it is impossible to replace?

So that would suggests that (at least on a 3G TL) replacing the mirror glass / holder is possible, right?

on any car it's possible
it's like saying once it's together, it can't be taken apart basically.
It's a lie, they're just trying to scam you

Looks like it.

Does your replacement mirror look like it has a mounting mechanism on the rear or is it just a plate of mirror?

If it has bracket-like gizmos, the replacement is probably like Justn referenced. If it's just a plate then you might need to pop the OEM mirror/holder and do a swap of the glass.

In my younger days, I would have disassembled the whole mirror assembly and broke the glass part out with a hammer and glued a new piece in. That doesn't help you much, I know. But tis what tis.

I took my mirrors apart to have them painted. You heat up the lense and shoot some heat under the lense to warm it up and then it pops off. I broke one trying to remove it freehand without warming it up. Good to have the damn honda service manuals

So the dealer says that they can replace them on TL, but not on the 2G TSX. They have tried, and they always break. Has anyone ever had the mirror replaced by a dealer? I suppose it is rare, as I am not even sure how my mirror cracked.
I spoke to a local auto glass place and they said they have done them - but who knows if that is true...
I haven't got the piece - it is still at the dealer.
I believe it is part number 76203-TL0-305.
Described as MIRROR SUB-ASSY., R. (R1400) (COO)(HEATED)

Call Acura and ask them how to replace it.

It's easy just do it yourself
Warm lens, pull off and snap new one in
Plus connect leads for heat

Should be easy to do it yourself.

I'm pretty sure it's not "impossible" like they are telling you... when I got my car the driver side mirror was loose and vibrated all over the place for some reason. They fixed it and i saw them take apart the mirror and nothing broke.. soo...

Well, look what I found in the 2009 TSX service manual.
Guess that is why they do sell the mirror holder.
So the answer is that the dealer is unable to re & re the mirror, not that it is not possible.

Okay Fiche...

Now your mission, and you must accept it, is to take a few pictures when you do the job. The manual diagram is fine and all, but I'd be curious to see what the bits and pieces actually look like.

Good luck! And report back to claim your +5 internet points upon completion.
