I've read a bunch of the posts from this forum and others (vtec, edmunds, motortrend, etc) and from what I can gather the overwhelming majority (probably upwards of 80-90%) don't seem to like the looks of the new TSX....but honda being honda people will end up buying it anyways!

The pre-release speculation cracks me up.

Most vehicle manufacturers use mules to test new engines/drivetrains... If the 09 is supposed to change AT ALL in these areas, there's nothing to suggest that this is anything more than clever covering on a current tsx exterior, visually modded only where they had to to fit the new innards.

I doubt this is the actual redesigned exterior at all. From what i've seen on the concepts, this vehicle will most likely be getting the civic-like spaceship-looking overhaul and i won't like it. Just my opinion, and since at this point, all we have are opinions, i don't think its half bad.

I've seen some covered vehicles at GM that you'd swear were totally similar designs to the old model year, and we've taken the coverings off of them, only to find out they look completely different to the old designs. The camo works well. They have like 10 different thicknesses of plastic cardboard they use to cover featurelines and make parts seem thicker or thinner.

To try and get an idea of the exterior design off of those pictures is just plain retarded for two reasons:
1. You have no idea if its a mule or a final exterior design.
2. Its covered up with camo to purposely mask what you think. Its not by accident that they leave sections uncovered, its all there to mess up the lines.

I agree

I agree mehoo The thought of Acura parading around the exact finished 09 TSX seems a bit off to me. The first time I saw the pics I thought it was just a 2008 with a bunch of duct tape on it and a different grill and trunk. There could be a number of reasons why this car is not the new TSX and just a mule. If it is I am sad for honda dropping the ball again.......It looks terribly plain

IMHO, the panels in the spy pics has no bearing to the new 2009 model. The new Acura Design Center is pulling tricks on everyone!

IMO, each panel on that car looks different than whats on the current car. So, IMO it is the 09. And keep in mind the 09 (undisguised) has already been shown to customers for testing purposes.

Opps be careful there you may want to define "customers" Customers are NEVER shown completely finished models prior to the public release campaign. The people that see the car for testing purposes sign disclosure agreements about the discussing the specifics of the car. Not potential buyers who go away with tons of info. If that was truly the finished TSX it would be covered more. The real uncovered testing is done at night never during the day in public areas. From what I have read the TSX is built in Japan not Ohio there would be very little or no reason to test the car there. I am sure the 09 finished TSX is being tested in Japan and Europe. IMHO...They are mules..

If for some crazy reason that is what it will even remotely look like Acura is in for a very, very rude awakening......and their market share will dwindle more...

I agree. You're not being that rash. I certainly hope those pics aren't the next generation TSX. I've owned 2 cars in my life: an Integra, and now my '05 TSX. That car in those pics looks like more like an Impala than something deserving of the Acura badge. If that's the next generation, Acura needs to go back to the drwawing board.

I just can't get over how last-generation that vehicle looks in its overall shape. Impala, Camry, fair comparisons. In fact I can't think of a single other car released in the past year that looks as dated as this test car. People say it's a test mule, but get serious, why would they mold a fully functional and unique body just for a test car complete with new style grill? Some people are saying the tape hides the true character of the car, but how much difference is a concealed pin stripe or some chrome gonna make? I should probably stop caring as much as I do, I'll probably switch it up for my next car.

Actually, dom is right. Talk to jlukja about his trip to Honda's shindig they put on a few months ago. They invited a select number of people to come take a look at the 09 model and a few of its competitors. Looks like you're new, so you probably didn't see his thread. Search for it and you'll see.

Also, manufacturers test their cars in many different places, not just where the car is built. Many cars are tested in Germany on the Nurburgring, for example.

What that said, this thread is beyond annoying, so I may not open it up again until the new gen is out.

Annoying or not this thread still has almost 14,000 views and 175 responses over 7 pages indicating at least some people are interested in the topic.

Here it is for those who haven't read it:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...9&page=7&pp=25

jlukja hasn't chimed in on this thread yet. I guess he doesn't want to risk getting in trouble...the description of the MDX-style shield with honey-comb grill behind seems to jive with the spy pics.

I'm in awe that people would disparage this thread but not one about birds taking a dump in unison onto someone's TSX.

jlukja (moderator) sounds like he'd have the best idea considering he attended a focus group a few months ago and saw something that might be the new TSX...he's sworn to secrecy though.

all these concepts seem to be somehow rounder than the current design, and I'm honestly not a fan. my last car was a '99 passat, so I've had all the "round" I can take for now.

I love the hard lines and angles on my '07 TSX, and the soft roundness the front of that concept car picture (red in the post above this one) and the short down-sweeping trunk lid just don't do it for me.

In my opinion (be it juvenile or not), the closer a car looks to a space fighter the better.

Expressions mag suggests pics will be online in Jan

As sasker correctly pointed out over at Temple of Vtec, the current issue of Acura's Canadian magazine, Expressions, notes that acura.ca is going to have a preview of the "breathtaking" next-gen TSX on the website sometime in January.

I agree, especially since this car has Dual Dual exhaust, much like the TL-S. The TSX would just look silly with that setup.

I think it's confirmed that the 2009 TSX will debut at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show.

Oh cool, I'm definately going to go next year and see this. It makes sense because if I recall the first time I saw the current TSX it was at the Chicago Auto Show too back in 2003. When I first saw it I thought to myself what a cool car, thought at first it was the next TL back then.

Intro of 04 TSX

If the 2004 TSX was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show in Feb 2003, when did the 04 TSX start hitting the dealerships? Wasn't it April 03?

If this pattern holds true, that means the 2009 TSX could be at the dealerships by April 2008?

Remains to be seen, although it seems to me that I've read more than once that it will be more like the summer.
