I just hope the (potential) Type-S turbo'd SH-AWD isn't a slug b/c of all the extra weight from the AWD system... it's not always about 0-60, but I want a car that's spritely off the line, and can still hug a corner on a spirited run w/o much understeer. Yeah... I want my cake, and I wanna eat it too

As for the styling, I'll wait and see what the release pics show... there's still a lot of "smoke and mirrors" there...

^^there are already spy pics of the new TL. This is the next TSX. I think that Acura has taken a step back in "restyling" this car. It doesn't look like a progression to me. The camo pieces are not hiding that much.

Well, if you go by that rationale for your TT, our "TSX" CL9 was out in Europe 2 years prior to arriving here in the States....

Tsx

As I was told Acura Rep in Corp, he was very confident in saying:

that new gen TSX will be AWD and that the TL will be the last car to have SH-AWD.
TSX might have 2 engine options V6 and 4cyn turbo a la RDX.

New TL will be in line with the Infiniti and CTS close to if not more that 300 HP. I hope 325 common on Acura !!!!

Thats all I have been told. I hope this helps. If anyone else finds out more please post. Thanks!!!

Not sure exactly how long it was but it was months, not 2 years. If I remember correctly, 3 to 4 months prior.

But is the current TSX an entirely new model? Unless you consider the Euro/Japan Accord an entirely new model. I don't think it was.

Well - I don't have a fancy TT like TinkySD ... just a run of the mill family car now ('07 Accord EX-L) .... but the TSX Type-S ... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. So I have 32 months and counting in my lease and I'm thinking this is in the running !!! (I still miss my '04 TSX!)

Here's to the wife continuing to get Odyssey's so I can move in to a 2010/2011 TSX Type S. I had an RDX loaner and all I could think of was - man this motor needs to be in my 2004 TSX ... and NOW!

By the way ... howdy to all the tsx.acurazine folks who haven't seen me in a while ... and FYI provench just had #4 kiddie - woohoo.

Many of us felt like Acura was not going to have turbo/ Sh awd until the type s model. I may be wrong, but it seems unlikely. I expect hondas best 4 cyl to date with 220-230 hp and 180 ft lbs of torque for the 09 model. Then Type S a couple years later. I might be one of the few that like this progression.
However, the styling seems quite boring. Compare it the the new CTS, Benz c class sport, 09 audi- these cars are beautiful and aggressive. Granted, they may a cost a little more than the 09 model, but I doubt they will cost anymore than the the mid 30's type s model. Those cars have beauty, class and AGGRESSION- the latter being what I want the TSX to develop.

The TT offically left port in Europe today so I won't be getting it until first of Novemeber. Then the 36 month countdown to a new car begins.

For all of you who don't know Prov the only thing he does more than switch cars, is have kids.

AWD doesn't have to add a lot of weight. Audi's heavy, subie's heavy, but Saab's XWD system coming out in mid '08 adds 150 lbs to the car. I have no idea how they did this but it shows it can be done. I'm still learning about SH-AWD but it seems that it should be pretty light since there's no differential and only clutch packs, but maybe I don't know enough about it. Your real concern would be drivetrain loss to the rears but since these cars seem biased 70%+ to the front I don't think that'll be a problem either. You might just get your cake...and a fork.

These pics and article fires me up! I was not expecting a Type S. That would throw a kink in my plans if it comes out a year or two after the rebuild. My '04 has over 88k on it. I had planned on buying a 2010 if the rebuild was done right. Otherwise I was going to a 335 coupe. Maybe a year or two extra to save some cash is a good thing. Guess I may be putting the '04 to the ultimate test. That means I would be around 160 - 170k miles.

I thought I read SH-AWD added ~ 300lbs to the RL back when it came out. Lets hope they can bring that down considerably.

I would expect no less than 3500lbs with AWD. The current car is 32xx. How can they possibly make it any lighter by adding enhanced safety and AWD.

It looks too much like the new 08 Accord to me. They should've made it a bit more destinctive, at least on the exterior. I know the interior will be really nice as I've always liked what Acura has put out.

It looks like it grew about 8 inches, too. I hope they fix the turning radius before they tinker with anything else.

If the Type-S (or any variant of the TSX, for that matter - but ESPECIALLY THE Type-S!!!) is auto/DSG only...

Right!
That info about only auto/DSG on the future TSX type-S is the worst car and TSX news I've heard in months. I don't want to learn a new, possibly inferior, way to manually shift gears.
I was getting real excited about the next TSX. Now I have to start also thinking about Audi, BMW, Subaru for turbo AWD. I want an Acura/Honda. This stinks.

I'd bet my life there will not be a DSG type tranny on the next TSX. At least not initially. Honda.Acura is behind the times in just about everything.

I feel that they should offer an ordinary manual transmission even if DSG is available because I bet people who prefer stick shift over automatic today mostly like the feel of shifting and not necessarily the performance benefit alone. Plus it's gotta be cheaper than the DSG components and make for a lower priced option when that time comes.

I'm down for new transmission technology, especially if it improves on what i can do normally. However, for the sake of Honda's fun-to-drive character, they absolutely should make a manual....its one of their core competencies.

I hope the make both, because there are 2 styles of enthusiast to cater to. DSG or electro-clutch setup can showcase the link to f1 technology that honda has much like VTEC had done, while a manual will keep fun-to-drive sporting enthusiast in the fold.

As much as I love manuals (I've owned 3 of them and currently have an 06 6MT), I'd be up for a dual clutch setup. Performance gain, slight gain in fuel economy over an auto, and easy on the feet in rush hour. Sign me up.

I would probably opt for the base model sticking near 30k if it got the 20-30hp bump. I wouldn't want much more with FWD anyway. I would have to test drive the Type S to see if it will be worth the added cost, weight, hit to fuel economy, etc. For me the current TSX strikes a pretty good balance. More power would be welcome, but starts to impact the balance of everything else.

Anyone know if the suspension would also be upgraded with the Type S (firmer, maybe lowered)? I also wonder if tranny options will be identical for both models? Hope they don't choose your tranny with type S (a'la IS350).

How fast would the current TSX be if it were 260hp? That seems dramaticly greater than the roughly 205HP it is now.

And we're also talking about a fattened torque curve as well, depending on where boost comes on. That could be one hell of an engine.

The question is...how heavy is the new TSX going to be, and is it going to match the current TSX's already athletic handling.

Base TL no longer has MT option.
RDX with SH-AWD (sound familiar?) has no MT option.
RL with SH-AWD (sound familiar?) has no MT option.

type-s sounds nice
interesting how it will stack up against other turbo+AWD sedans like the Legacy GT, Mazdaspeed6 and the upcoming new Saab 93XWD

I would love a DSG in my RDX. Sorry off subject. I think that the first Acura to get something like that will be the NSX replacement.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't offer a manual transmission in the 09s - here in the DFW area, I haven't seen a 6MT on the lot in at least 2 months now, and most of the dealers had at least one or two on the lot about a year ago..

Part of the reason I'm considering the TSX is because I got an RSX with the auto/sports shift back in '03, and I regret not getting a clutch.. even with rush hour traffic, I miss it.
