OEM clear headlights
OEM clear headlights
so i want to ditch the amber. but I dont like just removing it. in the past I messed with trying to make a lens. its a PITA and i never had any luck. depo lights suck. I know there are a few others but they all suck compared to OEM.
so if I go to lings I can chose a left hand drive 2009 wagon for the EU not UK.
the headlights are $US 329 each. plus I would guess 50-75 bux EACH to ship. lets say 150.
so that ~$US 800 total.
any way to get them cheaper. should I try AUS?
any of you EU guys not in the UK (LHD) have a handle on any of this?
WHAT ELSE will be differrent? easily overcome? wiring and such?
TIA
Rob

Buy depo lights, open and remove the clear reflector from them and put in your oem headlights. Sell cleared depo lights on craigslist for like $100.
If you buy oem from lings, or the depo ones, you are essentially spending $300-$800 for a set of clear reflectors since that's the only difference.

no one has done it to my knowledge.
i was gonna try to tackle a clear reflector project but the way ours is...its hard as fuck. i think joeblow or someone tried it and one side of it came out decent but the fucking angles fucked up the other part. sigh i dont think it can be done easily. making our own reflector that is

yeah took many angles shapes to make one.
going to look at depo, if I can get a near wholesale price I may try it.
dang depo gonna be at least 300 for a set I sent a note to fishcake...see what he says/

I also asked if he had any DAMAGED or RETURNED as all I want is the corner.....but he said no.
we get bonus 11/7 so I think I will treat myself to some then.
i could just put the amber in the depo lamps and maybe recoup $100 for the pair.......
a lot better than $800 for the OEMs.
I never saw this thread lol
selling euro grilles is not worth it
all the headaches of getting them here from overseas and then theyre no so perfect as described....to make like $200 for selling 3 of them.
I still have the lights
can someone tell me how to crack them open without melting them?

i can tell you how I did my jeep ones....cut on the TL sites there are mucho DIY...and the club too.
remove all electronics bulbs etc.
heat oven to about 220.
put in for about 8 minutes or until glue feels softening with a poke.
then be careful using a pry tool to get the lens seperated from the base.
if you need more glue when sealing buy 'byutel rubber' check retrofitsource for some.

The temp and time varies from site to site. It's all around the same temp and time though as rob posted above. Just take it out a few times and see how pliable it is until you feel like it'll come apart. Just take it slow, and add some extra silicone/rtv/sealant to it afterwards.
ok
got them apart but I have a few issues
there's goopy crap everywhere
do i scrape it all off or just leave it there for reassembly
and 2 tabs seem to have gotten weak from the heat and never returned to full strength, is that possible? I will have to reinforce them I guess

the goop is the butyl rubber. keep it if you can. you can heat it a bit then reassemble and clamp.
2 tabs: do you mean the big mounting tabs for the lamp or the little tabs on the lens edges????
i use the heat gun and a pliers with smooth teeth to straighten out all the edges before putting back together.

I'd also recommend a heat gun, since I did a projector retrofit on my truck and the lights yellowed more than they were after going in the oven.
The goopy crap is what pretty much holds the headlight lens to the assembly so I'd say you should leave it there for reassembly.
