Navigation issue due to low battery?

Folks,

today unexpectedly I had a navigation issues twice. The first time it showed a disc error message "disc error, please contact your dealer" and the second time the screen just went black without any prior notice. Really weird. I don't know if that matters, but the battery is 5 years old and is quite low. As a matter of fact, when the car consumes too much power the lights on the dashboard barely twinkle. Has anyone experienced something like that? Could the low battery be the reason for the problem?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Have not encountered this as my car is pretty much new, but in any case, your battery NEEDS to be replaced! You don't want to find out the hard way that you should've gotten it replaced. Since you pretty much "need" to replace the battery anyway, do it, and you can then find out if your navi problems still occur.

Thanks for the feedback.

My idea was that probably as a way to save power probably the computer has its own protection so it shuts down the navigation in order to limit the electric consumption.

or, since modern cars have LOTS of gadgetry, the battery cannot power the devices.

Get the battery replaced...

In Europe the batteries are ungodly expensive, not like in the good old America. Anyways, I will change it. Was just curious if someone of you guys, has experienced a problem like that in his/her experience with his/her car.

didnt notice you were in Europe.
you're very lucky as most of our american batteries only last 2-3 years.

Well, my battery is 4.5 years old. I don't know how good is that, but my older cars used to go approximately 5-6 years with a battery. Perhaps new cars have much bigger power consumption therefore their battery lifespan is shorter.
