My DashMat Pics and review

Florida sun is brutal and decided on a DashMat for protection. Fit and finish were great and color was close to my Parchment interior. Thought about getting it in black but noticed the other interior accents are not black but an off color perhaps closer to their Cinder (79). If anyone gets Cinder color please post pics.

Kind of looks like a carpeted dashboard now.

A sunshade wasn't enough?

I don't live in Florida but if I did I think I'd opt for a sunshade for the front windshield and let my tints help the rest. I could never cover up my dashboard and turn my car into a wannabe shag mobile.

How would it look in black? Even though you might not like the look, it probably does protect the dash a lot, probably will never crack.

Yes. Sold the big Benz back in May. Miss it a lot as it was a great car. It did pay for my 2,200+ ft2 of my concrete driveway thou. Plus the company I work for pays for my Acura and on top of that I save $100 per month in fuel (16 mpg of premium to 29 on regular.

The dash is not black thou. If you look real close you will notice there is a bronze color. Black stood out like a sore thumb. Their cinder color might match better.

Your logic has no place here. Who needs airbags when you have a carpet dash?

Wow... No need for these insults in the forum. Always have an open mind, never be too opinionated, Robpp that was pretty rude. I like it and am considering buying one for maybe the Mazda3 or TSX but that doesn't mean that you have a right to tell someone else what's ugly or what's beautiful just because you have different taste.

Good question and the answer is yes. While the manufacturers have put a cutout for the airbag (that seam between the nav and the right side of the dash) it was never tested and it is actually unlikely that the airbag will deploy as intended. That dashmat may actually also interfere with the side curtain deployment.

The OP didn't post in the pictures forum, he posted in the general TSXv2 forum. That means that he was asking for opinions. He got them and, quite frankly, robpp's wasn't that outrageous.

While aesthetics are certainly in the eye of the beholder, dashmats were designed for 80's and 90's full size vans that had either no airbags or the gen 1 full power bags and no side curtain bags. Dashmats do not belong in a modern car from a safety aspect.

This is one of those unintended consequences I keep talking about. Regular application of a good protectant like Aerospace 303 along with the use of one of those folding things for your windshield will keep the dash looking new.

Even with the airbags you'll get a nice case of rug burn on your face. That should make your SO happy since they will be ones sitting there.

I saw a movie called Rug Burn On Your Face this weekend. It wasn't about cars though. Now that I think of it, there weren't any actual rugs either.

Why not just use those sun reflectors every time you park your car in the sun?

personally I just use a car cover when parked for long periods of time....but if I was gonna get a dashmat....I would prefer something thinner like alcantara....

I think you need anger management. Your comments appear to come from a pouty 4 year old, not a supposed adult.

"mommy, mommy, Robbie doesn't like what I did, so let me tell you what I think about his...."

You like that dashmat crap - fine. Just don't complain about it when the sidecurtain doesn't deploy correctly and the passenger's face hits that carpeted mat.

Don't even think about trying this on a car with airbags.

Good point. The glue is probably a TIH so it will require plenty of ventilation and/or a mask.

Obviously you do not know that the TSX sedan side curtain airbag comes out of the roof liner and partially down the A and C pillar - not the dash. Also the force that the airbag comes out tearing the dash will definately separate velcro with ease. But then again, you will probably challenge that too.

I've got to agree with robpp - you're not very bright.

I've forgotten more about airbags than this entire community will ever learn.

The A pillar trim must release in order for the side curtain to deploy. Will the dashmat interfere with the A pillar? Most probably.

The passenger airbag cover is part of the system. As the dash pops apart, the cover and the windshield assure that the airbag deploys correctly.

Even if the velcro "separates", it will keep the airbag from deploying correctly.

I don't care if you agree or not. These are the facts and anyone with an even partially open mind will recognize that a carpet on your dash will keep the A pillar cover from popping off properly and that heavy and thick hunk of carpet will keep the airbag cover from contacting the windshield.

It is only the life of your passenger that is at risk. I couldn't care less but acting like an ass right won't make you many friends.
