Mud Flaps and Wheel Locks -- required?

A dealership told me that in the district I'm trying to buy in that dealers are required to put a Protective Package on all new car sales. It includes Mud Flaps and Wheel Locks--two things which I do NOT want on my new car. And of course these things add to the cost of the car

Anybody heard of this? I drove buy another dealer and all the cars on that lot also had Mud Flaps. Not sure if it's BS or not. Sucks having to pay for stuff you don't want. Anyway to get a new car without that stuff? Maybe make a special order?

What's your opinion of Mud Flaps?

Although I like to have both on my car, mandating that they are there is bull.

sounds like a load of B.S. to me. I do have them on my tsx but I did not have to pay extra for them.

Mud flaps keep the area behind the wheels from getting dinged, pitted, and messed up from stuff coming off your tires. I just bought a 2010 TSX and they were required to come with the car because I purchased it thru a COSTCO store. I would have had them put on regardless. They are GREAT protection for your car and the ones they put on TSXs are really sharp looking and non intrusive. I put them on all my vehicles. I don't think you'll regret getting them. Wheel locks, I don't see much use in them.

Hope this helps.

I did not like my black mud flaps; I thought they took away from the sporty look of the car. I was gonna take them off but did not want my paint to get all f**ked up from rocks & shit. Thus, I decided to paint the outside of the mud flaps Tafetta White to match the car's paint job and left the inside of them black to match the wheel well. The result:

My car came with the wheel locks...didn't pay extra for them. I purchased the Acura OEM flaps (from an online dealer) and installed them myself. Making you pay for them is BS. It's like saying "cars come with undercoating standard".

Mud flaps do keep the dirt off of the car to a degree. I've had them on all of my cars and will have them on all future cars. I also like the look.

the wheel locks/mud flaps are usually part of the "pro pack" the dealers install on the cars

i dont see why it would be mandatory though

Mud Flaps actually look good especially if you are going to lower the car...and they're paint matched
