Insurance Claim - Modulo Rear Bumper?
Hey guys,
So my 2012 BWP SE was rear ended a few days ago (other party was at fault) and my rear bumper was cracked and will need to be replaced on Geico's dime. They are basically cutting me a check for the repair after the adjuster appraises the damage. So I was wondering if I should just replace with another SE bumper or if I just upgrade to the Modulo style bumper. My car is Bellanova White Pearl and it looks like an SE bumper (unpainted) is about $300 whereas a pre-painted Modulo rear bumper is $468. I'm thinking a Modulo bumper would actually be cheaper than having the body shop order an SE bumper and then prime/paint it. I'm torn on swapping out the OEM SE bumper (which I do like) with another bumper but at the same time also I like the uniqueness and style of the Modulo bumper that you rarely see on another TSX. What are you thoughts? What would you do?

Thanks guys. When I go to any of the Acura parts websites, it looks like they have the Modulo style rear bumper in Bellanova White Pearl in stock so I imagine they are readily available. Hell, I I can probably just swap out the rear bumpers myself without involving the body shop at all but I should probably just have the body shop do it just in case they see any hidden damage.

If you accept a check from the insurance company then you are on the hook for any hidden damage.

The Geico adjuster stated that the rear bumper can be repaired rather than replaced. If I was going to keep the SE bumper I would be hesitant to go that route and would push for a full replacement. I am guessing that my body shop would vouch for me on that as well and would work with the insurance company for a full replacement bumper. I can't imagine they would be able to repair and blend the paint perfectly. I don't really want to deal with the hassle of getting an estimate, being without my car for a few days, having to get a rental, etc. and I prefer the styling of the sports rear bumper so I decided to order it from oemacuraparts.com for $620 shipped which is almost exactly what the insurance payout was. acurapartspeople.com had the bumper for $550 shipped but I had seen some complaints on this site about non-responsiveness so that made me hesitant to order from them.
I am anxious to get this installed. The installation looks pretty straightforward but I would welcome any tips or advice on the install if anyone has done this themselves.
