Honda says no Accord Type-R (no Type-S?)
Honda has no plans to launch a hot Type-R version of the new Accord, according to well placed sources.
The all-new model, which is making its debut at the Geneva show later this month, doesn’t fit the Type-R brand according to insiders. ‘A Type-R Accord would not suit the character of the car or our target audience’ said one.
Honda is making it clear that it wants the new saloon and estate to finally propel the company into competing with more premium marques such as BMW and Audi, but it's not ruling out sporty derivatives altogether. The plan is to offer more aggressive body kits and lowered suspension in the same vein as Audi’s extremely successful S-line models
However they will be powered by the normal engine line up: a choice of 154bhp 2.0-litre and 197bhp 2.4-litre petrol engines and a new 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel. A more powerful version of this diesel is also in the wings.
The new Accord saloon arrives in showrooms in June, while the Tourer goes on sale in September.

Audi's "S-line" isn't even that successful, it seems like a cheap alternative to not getting the S4.
If they don't want a Type-R because its not "high-class" enough, just come up with another name to badge onto high performance models. And ACTUALLY make them high performance, not just a tiny high rev'ing four banger. I mean, Honda's 2.0L K20 engine is obviously very nice, but that thing is old news, especially for the weight class of the Euro Accord.

Not to highjack but before you laugh read this: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.*
I keep hope for something of a surprise from Acura, maybe Geneva or NY?, but starting to look for a new date....maybe the TL?

That (OT verbiage) said, it is very disappointing that the Acura lineup seems to be headed upscale without any consideration of enthusiasts. They are basically making a line of cars for moderately wealthy men to buy their soccer-mom wives - luxury but boring Why don't they leave that segment to the Lexus SUVs and give us a Type-R?!!?

Statements like this make me want to puke.

Does a car have to have a Turbo, or SH-AWD, or both for you to like it?
If yes, then why did you buy the TSX in the first place?
If what Acura/Honda is doing is what 95% of their customers are after, then I don't blame them one bit.

i'm not saying the base TSX should have received turbo or AWD however i dont see how there isn't a market for a type-s version.

Maybe Acura feels they couldn't compete with the 328, A4 2.0T or 250/350 for sales.
You have to admit, the TSX does fit into a very nice niche in the market as is.

What Acura lacks right now is, options. They can have a base model of TSX, like BMW 323i; Audi A4 2.0T; MB C280; or Lexus IS250. But for people who appreciate the car, and also would like a tune of sportiness (which is a majority in this entry sport sedan world), we would also like to step up to a bigger engine/ stiffer chassis etc. If all of those above are classed as "Entry-level" luxury sport sedan, the TSX will be classed as ? Near-Entry-Level luxury sport sedan???
Nowadays, a Toyota Camry/ Honda Accord/ Nissan Altima or even a Hyundai are Bigger, more comfortable, and more power than the Acura TSX, so what does the TSX compete w/? Itself?
With more options, a good build will shine, and not limited due to the engine choices.

I like a lot of things about the TSX. I don't want to look at other brands on account of is silly weak low end, I want them to do what is industry standard and offer more than one solitary power option.
