High Oil Consumption

My 09 has been ripping through oil! Instead of a long winded post i will sum it up for you guys. When i bought the car it had a really loud whining noise when accelerating especially. Brought it in for service and they replaced the alternator pulley, belt tensioner and belt. Didnt fix it . Brought it back in, they determined it was coming from the timing chain area so they replaced the timing chain, chain tensioner etc, That didnt fix it. So they brought it back in again and found it was the oil pump chain. For some reason the chain had been making this high pitched whining noise. This was all covered under warranty but since i got the car back about 2-3 months ago my car has been consuming a ton of oil! Anyone else have an issue similar to this? My Other 09 before my accident never ever had this issue. Any thoughts???

I've had almost the same problem and it seems more common for manual transmission. I've been noticing that my car makes rattling noise when accelerating especially around 2000-3000 rpm. Also, the "check oil" indicator light constantly came up when making tight turns or sudden braking. I took it to the dealer and they concluded that the oil level was indeed low. My car has been consuming excessive amount of oil. Once I got the oil changed, all the rattling noise was gone. The dealer told me to come back after 1000 miles so we'll see. Acura really needs a TSB for this. They did it for Honda Civic for excessive oil consumption. Did the noise go away after changing the oil?

I never got any noises. I am also doing the oil consumption test. 6spd Manny?

Mine seems to gradually lose oil. Don't know how that works.

Not much loss the first 1000.
Very little the 2nd 1000.
A litre the 3rd 1000.
a litre and half the 4th 1000.

As I recall.

^^ You could just top off after the first 1,000 miles to bring it back to the original level, that way it won't loose much all the time -- right? Unless you are implying that oil really degrades after the first 1,000 miles and starts disappearing quicker, even if kept at the same level.. which would mean the oil is complete junk and totally isn't up to the task (not likely).

I'd say, that sounds pretty consistent with what I'm seeing -- around 2,000 miles into new oil, I've topped it off with maybe 1/4 of a quart. But, I've only changed the oil twice so far and am close to 11K miles. I wouldn't say my consumption is bad -- a quart or less in 5K oil change intervals (acceptable to me considering the water-thin 0w20) -- but I do keep a close eye on the oil level and top it of when needed (small amounts).

Ya forgot to mention that! I have the rattling noise as well! It seems to be the exact same problem u had. I'm brining it to the dealership to see what they say. Also I have a clunking noise in the front end when braking and hitting bumps and sometimes just turning and hitting a bump. So many things to address but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

Yea.my experience with my 2009 TSX have been very bad due to all these experiences I had:
1. Had to replace roof moulding because it kept coming off during car wash.
2. Had to replace the VTC actuator for making grinding noise at cold start-up. This noise is back again =(
3. The rear brake pads wearing out after 20000 miles
4. Had to replace knock sensor due to pinging noise when accelerating.
5. Now this (excessive oil consumption) which ACURA SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO ADDRESS!

The sad thing is that these problems started occuring right after the car warranty expired.

I will probably never ever buy Acura again. It is no longer reliable as the old days.
