Gauging Interest: Authentic JDM Type S Bodykit
Ok so I know there's definitely interest out there in the JDM Type S bodykit that's sold only overseas, especially since there's not many kits out there for the 2nd gen.
For those that don't know, the kit is an OEM part in European and Japanese markets and is a part of the Type S package there. It consists of front and side skirts and a rear bumper replacement. Here's some eye candy:

I've been researching all the ways I could possibly think of to get it over here cheaply and none can seem to beat the quote I've been getting through a local JDM specialty shop for around $2000. This is already not a bad price considering what North American dealerships are charging for the OEM Modulo/aero kit that a lot of members on here already have and it's nothing compared to what a full Mugen kit would cost to get over here.
Anyways, $2000 is still a lot of pocket change so I've been in contact with the shop and they have agreed to offer a "bulk order" discount if I can get 5 or more guys to commit to this...
Now before anyone starts saying that this is a group buy and everything like that please try to understand that I've already tried looking up our sponsors on this forum and this is a specialty product that needs to be imported so none of them carry this. I don't think this will step on any toes. I'm just really interested in being the first to import a full authentic JDM kit and I'm trying to see if any one else wants to get in on the action so we can get a break on the price.
Bottom line is I need to know who would be seriously interested in doing this with me. I know there are a couple replica kits out there but honestly anyone who's had a genuine kit before knows that the fit and finish of OEM is second to none. PM me if interested.

Haha I knew you guys would say that.
I like the rear too--reminds me of the new M3:

Remember--the rear is a full bumper replacement, not a skirt like the replica kit....the replica looks almost too chunky in comparison.

Where is this JDM specialty shop located (as in what country)? And how would this bulk buying thing work as we're all located in different places? Or is the shop going to ship it out all seperately but they just need a bunch of people buying? (I'm new, go easy on me)

Shop's here in Toronto, Canada but they deal with customers internationally so shipping shouldn't be an issue. I can get into specifics with them regarding shipping costs when we get a better idea of who is actually interested in the kit. Even with the shipping I have no doubt this will be the cheapest method of bringing the kit over. I've done some homework about getting independent shops in Japan and the UK (including Lings) to give me shipping quotes and they're all more than what's been quoted to me. Obviously by bulk-buying we are saving on the steep shipping costs of bringing the kits over in their containers from Japan.

yeah a few of the guys including defcon and rawesome have the replica kit.
The replica is already almost $500 including shipping within the US from the ebay dealers and from what I've been reading the side skirts are a little off (which is usually the case with replica kits). After paint and installation you're probably looking at $1000-$1300. I figure if we can get this OEM kit (which comes pre-painted already) for a few hundred off the $2000 asking price it actually comes in close to the replica for much better quality and fitment.

that shouldn't be too hard. Look up a member on here, Ichiro. He's got a red cu2 with T1s's and a modulo kit....one of the nicest looking cars on here so far for sure.

$2000 is a great price for FOB Ontario. You are right about the OEM fitment, my front lip (paint match from factory) fits perfectly. I actually liked the Modulo side skirts over the Type S one and but the rear bumper looks great.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Now if we all could get that shipping error from Ling's like you and impressink got we'd all be ballin

As far as I can tell the Type S side is a little wavier and doesn't have that vertical notch at the front of the skirt. To me that makes the Type S look a little cleaner. I don't mind the Modulo rear but it's a little plain from certain angles.

i like just the rear bumper

Ok good so this is picking up some steam here!
Works out perfectly that CU2MIKE only needs a front and Prototype needs sides and rear. That makes 2 full kits including mine.
Let's start a list of interested members. I only need 5 to get this going. 3 more to go.
1. 5thTo2nd (full kit)
2. CU2MIKE (front) & Prototype (sides and rear)

Hey Ronald, does that mean you want in on the list?

Yeah you're right tech, $2k is good. Thanks for chiming in since you're one of the few who actually have experience with these authentic JDM parts.

When I initially contact Lings over two years ago for the TypeS/GT aero kit, their price was C$3500 shipped. They only use air courier for international shipment which basically double the cost, I know the JDM shop in Ontario used ocean frieght, the only drawback is 4-6 weeks wait instead of 1 week with air cargo. But we are talking about over $1K savings in shipping here

I used the Modulo side skirts because it cost only $500 shipped to Canada from a California Acura dealer, the Type S one from Japan (same JDM dealer in Ontario) would have cost me C$800 +HST+shipping to BC totaling C$1000.
Again, great job.... hope you get three more signing up real soon.

I will think about it if people are really down to order the rest of the kit

Quick question, is the $2K price for painted units. I know they sell them in primer only. Do you think your JDM dealer would mix and match colour (eg: front lip CBP, side skirts and rear PWP).
