Fuel Efficiency

Just came back from a Winnipeg to Fargo, ND trip in my 2012 TSX Tech. I took highway fuel economy data at different speeds over the trip there and the trip back two days later. I was very pleased and will post the data tomorrow.

Driving my TSX Tech 4 cylinder, I took fuel economy data at various speeds over my trip to Winnipeg to Fargo and back this week. There was little breeze on the trip south and some significant helping wind on the return journey north, particularly for the last third. My results were as follows:

Over the 534 km I drove without construction or slowdowns on divided highways, my weighted average speed was 115 kph with a weighted fuel economy of 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres. Converting that to miles and gallons, my number for 329 miles at 71 mph was 44 mpg. Converted to US gallons, the fuel economy rating would be 35 mpg.

In terms of ranges, I achieved a low of 5.4 Litres per 100 km at 106 kph over 1 45 kilometre stretch, significantly better than the normal car's highway rating of 6.2 - which is normally tested at a 90 kph (55 mph). This rating was aided by a helping wind. In terms of high rating, I achieved a 6.9 rating at 120 kph over an 85 km stretch of road. With the wind, that improved to 6.4 at the same 120 speed (75 mph) on the way home.

I was very pleased with the car's performance. We enjoyed good smooth power, excellent fuel efficiency, a quiet drive, and a superb sound system for this very enjoyable mini holiday.

Yes the TSX is great at highway driving, My dad on his highway route seemed to get 35-38 when going to other states. How amazing, this car is such a joy to own because it's cheap and a great value.

35 mpg is a good number, thanks to the overdrive in 6th gear which keeps the RPMs low

I also find it pretty good in the city, averaging around 10.5 litres per 100 km, or about 27 miles per gallon (imperial) - or about 22 mpg US. given that this involves mainly to and from work, that's pretty darn good.
