King of MPG

Okay, let's take a brief break from discussion of Fast'n'Furious wannabe mods and play a game with something perhaps more representative of the TSX's laid back nature.

The game is "King of MPG" and the rules are simple: Post up a photo of your MPG display with a number higher than what is posted already. The only catch is that this number must be based on at least 300 miles of driving. Instant MPG does not count.

BTW, yes, everyone knows the MPG meter is not accurate. That's not the point. It's just a game to see how high you can get the meter to read over 300 miles.

I'll start with a relatively modest 35.0 mpg. Note that the associated trip meter reads 376 miles. Anyone who does a lot of highway driving should be able to beat that pretty quickly.

Low MPG number wins too, for all you leadfoots out there.

yep tsx 4-cyl is really good on the highway. my 3.2 TL gets about 30-32 mpg with freeway driving but crappy 18-20 mpg all city.

This game can be rigged. Run up the mileage and refill and let it idle in the driveway for 30 minutes.

Uh, sure go right ahead and show us how well that trick works for ya.... The MPG A meter is tied to the trip A meter, not gas tank fill.

Ah, man, you had only driven 49 miles when the photo was taken. Too bad you didn't get a shot toward the end of the tank!

My record is 34.3 with over 300 miles driven. Keep in mind, this is the wagon and I had stuff in it

The wife rolled out a hand calc'd 33.2mpg on a 420 mile tank last week. Didn't use cruise control either - she won't use it, says she doesn't like it. Posted speeds were 55mph - 65mph, but she and God only know the actual speeds (sure they were MUCH higher)
The MID read 34.4mpg when I went to fill it up.

best mileage is attained at like 73mph i think. i dont enjoy cruise control much either, less of a feel for the car, and lets you get distracted more easily

If you idle your MPG goes down, re-think this one.

Recently drove from VA to Maine for vacation with the in-laws. Filled up in VA and again in CT. Here are the results:

Contents of car:
Me and wife
2 sets of golf clubs
Cooler
2 carry on size luggage bags
Some hand tools
Bag of books and other random bits.

Saw as high as 37.3 on the MID around the 240 mile mark. Hand calc'd mpg at the fillup was just a smidge over 35.1mpg for that 465 miles. I'm pretty damn impressed.

Well I tried for a repeat from Maine to Jersey today. 474 miles and could only get 33.9mpg on the MID. Hand calc'd was a little over 33mpg. Too much traffic and rain today that we didn't have last week on the trip up.

My highest has been 33 on a trip from NJ to MD on the highway mostly going 75-85mph. I'm driving to Raleigh for Labor Day, I will try to beat 36mpg if I don't hit too much traffic...

NJ to VA this morning. 301 miles almost exactly and the MID says 36.2mpg. I was hauling through upper MD with a guy in a CTS coupe. 85+ for a few miles at least. I'm sure that didn't help, nor the rush hour traffic around Baltimore.

Pics or it didn't happen!
Ha, kidding.

I'm impressed with what this CU2 can deliver. It's such a far cry from my 5.4L beast in the truck and it's a pleasure to drive. On the trip home from NJ I did see 38.1mpg around the 115 mile mark, but that dropped quickly once I got off the cruise control and the road opened up.

Nice work in the wagon...what all were you carrying?

Ahhhh so the truth comes out! I had that beat...37.2mpg when we stopped in Jersey for the night, but it was only 270+ miles, but I did snap a picture of it, just have to see if it's still on the phone.

Display of 36.4mpg on a 650 mile round trip from Roanoke Va to Nags Head NC. Took Route 460 with speeds averaging 60-65 mph most of the trip with 2 passengers, small suitcases and beach chairs.

Hand calculated it was about 35 mpg, typically I calculate about 1.5-2mpg less then display.

Had all intentions of taking a picture of the diplay readout but my bberry died on the trip home. I've found it easy to beat the EPA highway estimates with this car, love the k24!

NICE! But you know that this "didn't happen" without pics!
460 West of Petersburg is a great drive. 460 East of Petersburg can be a nightmare since there is no median and being constantly worried about what's coming at you. I travel it frequently from Richmond to VA Beach and the OuterBanks when I want to avoid I-64.

Yeah I'm kicking myself for not taking a pic, I would have waited until this afternoon but my wife was sure to kill that mpg number with her all city commute. I'll just have to grab a pic on the next trip we take.

I HATE Petersburg, that area is one big speedtrap and i've got the ticket to prove it.

Maxed out at 34.0 on my trip to Houston, but went down a little once i got into town. Not to shabby for a V6 with two people, luggage, and a full tank of gas.
