extended Warranty
i did a search and got some info but not alot.
I am picking my car up on Nov 20th. i got prices on additional from the finance manager but did not commit to anything.
tire and wheel protection $595 for 5 years.
6 year 70k extended 0 deductible acura care warranty for $1000
What do you guys think of getting extra coverages and what should they be worth.
the tire and wheel protection seems like a waste of money to be because although they say it pays for stuff i have read they deny alot of claims.
the extended seems good but i guess never know until you need it after the 4 year 50k basic runs out.
thoughts?

it's a car-drive it
Is that warranty the one if you do not use it you get a full refund. If so then maybe. I did not get the extended warranty on my 06 tsx. It will soon be 4 years old with 115,000+problem free miles. What exactly does the tire and wheel protection include.

Honda can have problems. We owned a 05 civic ex-se. It was a P.O.S.=one problem after another-traded it in at 36,000 miles when the warranty ended. My mom has a 08 accord that transmission was replaced at less than 13,000 miles. It locked up.

the tire and wheel protection is supposed to pay be a sign and drive program for any tire or wheel damage (bent rim/ pot home/ nail/ blowout) its 595 for 5 years. it also carries over to any new tires purchased during that time. so if i had to get 4 new ones because they are worn out the new set would be covered for the remaining years.

The warranty is refundable for the unused portion from what he said.

Also, be sure to get everything in writing. Salespeople will tell you anything to get you to commit, but when it comes time to use the warranty and you tell them "Mr. Salesman told me I could get this" they'll just laugh at you if it's not in the contract.

I got the extended Acura Care warranty, too much Tech stuff in the car. Don't want to pay for a new nav and audio unit few years down the road for $3-$5K.

The tire and wheel protection is the newest way for a dealer to make money.
Save your coin, you will be much better off in the long run.

^ That may be a misstatement from the OP. You can get Acura Care for 8yrs/120K miles. The 6yr/70K is the power-train warranty that comes with the car.

there are several different plans. the 7 year 100k might be a better plan but thats going to be about 400 or so more.

I got the extended warranty as well. 7 years/120K miles.
I'm planning to keep this car for over 100K miles so to me it's worth the extra protection especially considering how expensive it is to fix newer cars nowadays with all the fancy electrical and mechanical doo-dads.
Consider it like health insurance. Yeah...it sucks having to pay for it but when you need it...you're glad you have it. LOL.

I think, in general, extended warranties are a waste of money.
Take the $1000 or $1500 you would have spent on an extended warranty and put that money in stock market in a relatively low-risk investment vehicle, say a S+P 500 index fund. Wait 5+ years for the extended warranty to kick in - then see if you need the money (by which point, the money would have grown in size perhaps at a 10% annual rate which is the historical average for the US stock market).
Given that Acura is one of the most reliable car brands per Consumer Reports, then chances are you won't need the warranty, but if you do, then the money is sitting there for you, potentially having grown substantially in size in the intervening years. If not, then you have a large pot of money to use for something else. That initial $1000 investment may have increased substantially in size over the 5+ years since you purchased the car.
From my standpoint, why lock in your money into possibly fixing your car if something breaks (but the money can't be used for any other purpose if it doesn't break) when that money could be much more flexible and spent for anything you want if simply invested wisely?
Let's not even think about the possibility that you might want to purchase a different car in 3-5 years anyway, before the extended warranty kicks in? We all say that we're keeping our cars for the duration, but situations change and people need different cars because they have kids, need a bigger car, need better fuel efficiency because they changed jobs and need better mileage for the commute, or they simply want something new to drive after a few years.
Why do companies push these extended warranties so aggressively every time you purchase a car or an expensive piece of electronics? Because the profit margins are huge, plain and simple.
I don't think the analogy to health insurance is appropriate because health expenditures can be catastrophic, whereas most of us could write off the price of a car - you simply cut your losses short, sell the car, buy a new one, which you can't really do with your health/life.
You make your choices, and you roll the dice.

I did not get any extended warranty because I believe in the quality of a Honda. I owned a 2004 Civic and I never had any problems since the day I bought it.
The guy at the Acura dealership gave me a half hour lecture about the extended warranty and in the end I said "NO"

I purchased a warranty when I bought my 04 TL and I thank god I did it..it more then paid for itself..but at that time I overpaid for the warranty because I didn't do any research..Warranties are marked up about 100%, easy. I drive about 18K a year, so my car is out of factory quickly, so I like to do the extended. I got 5yrs, 100,000 for $800. The original quote was exactly $1600. So I knew I had a chance to get him down. He didn't fight when I said I'd do it for $800. I'm sure there is still probably another $100 or $200 on the table, but I got a good price on the car. My loan is for 3 yrs, so I'll be covered thru the life of my loan if something goes wrong with the car. I'm planning on keeping it at least 5 yrs. For me it's good piece of mind.

Some people have never damaged a rim or blown a tire by hitting a pothole or debris in the road and some people have. If you are one of the ones who never has, then don't buy the tire and wheel warranty. If hitting potholes and damaging tires and rims is something you do on an annual basis, then get the tire and wheel warranty.
I have personally seen people who have saved themselves over $1000 because of the tire and wheel warranty. In New England, our roads turn to crap in the winter from frost heaves and turn into minefields with potholes in the spring. If you blow one tire and bend one rim, the warranty has saved you money in most cases.
For the tire and wheel, look at your own history, not what others tell you is worth it or not.
