"The Element"
"The Element"
amadeus303 and I would like to propose a new Acurazine Tradition. There is a lot of controversy about ONE element of the TSX design. We all know what it is.
I have suggested and amadeus303 has seconded the motion that just as Voldemort is also known as 'He whose name is not spoken"
We shall never speak of "IT" again.....heretofore it will be only called "The Element" All newbies will be directed to this thread and chastised if they should speak of "It" in forum thread.

Nice try Colin, reframing or trying to disassociate a negative mental anchor about the grill does not fix it.
Getting an aftermarket one will or at least having Acura create a better one will rectify the issue.
Appreciate the effort though.

I may buy a 09 TSX. As mentioned before a test drive will play a large part there.
I have already purchased new wheels that may go on this 09: 08 Accord V6 EX Wheels on 09 TSX???
I am even considering replacing my element with JDM or perhaps whatever Mugen comes up with.
The element, however is starting to grow on me.

I'm actually happy to keep coming up with euphemisms. "Peeler," "Chopper," "Cowcatcher" (I know, it's not that bad),...
You have to concede one thing though, the "element" has been a lightning rod, and is unmistakable. I'm sure that's the idea. Instantly recognizable from way behind in your rearview or side mirrors.

I wanted something that to me looked more sporty and upscale elegant at the same time. The wheels I purchased may just meet that criteria.

I'm sorry "The Element" is THE ELEMENT. (It's not as if there are two Voldemorts)

OT, but I finally realized why there're the blisters in the headlights. The signals were moved outboard, and the blister is to aim them forward. Kinda ... odd.

The turn signal/nav lights (sorry, I'm an old aviator type) were moved to the outside of the two headlights. Not a bad thing, I guess. But the loss of a smooth flowing headlight cluster is a drawback of this decision.
I never really looked at the MDX and the new RL and TSX elements. I suspect that the effort here is to make them match up like a matched set of die-cast toy cars. Well, what works on the MDX IMHO (it has several little horizontal slots that make the element look like an integral part of the nose) looks like a transplant to the sedans. (As someone pointed out.) I'm repeating myself, I'm sure....
I've heard "bland styling" several times in reviews of the 1st gen TSX, so....

I just saw it today, and really like it.
The old TSX is so much more sporty... and um... sporty.
The new TSX is so much more modern, refined, and luxurious... with a touch of sportiness. A turbo 4 or V6 would help with the sportiness aspect, though; maybe a diesel for added fuel economy?

BTW... the grille looks great.

I went to see the new TSX today. and "the element" is uh, well horrible. I did find one use for it and that is you can use it as a mirror.
that said, i was also disappointed at the interior. i noticed the door handles are not even chrome plated anymore. they are just gray. i was hoping for at least chrome or even real metal. i mean for god sakes my coworker has an 06 accord and it has REAL METAL accents. and its an accord.
my friend got a e90 325i and it has real metal covered door handles. the e46 had fake metallic plastic. the TSX on the other hand goes from at least nice looking chrome plated door handles, to uh really crappy looking and feeling plastic ones then wastes all the now non existant chrome and puts it on "the element".
perhaps there is a budget of chrome and it could only go to 1 spot.
also even the dealer there said he thought the element looked horrible.

I drove by my Chapel Hill dealership last night, and they had a '09 TSX in front. The Element shone like a beacon from 500' away or more. No kiddin'. Now, maybe it was catching the light of the setting sun ... maybe I was "looking for it" ... but I instantly saw the '09 TSX and said to my companion, "Ah there it is ... you can see it by the light shining off [the Element]." She saw it too.

Also posted in the "rock magnet" thread....
I kinda wonder (probably in vain), would the 2004-2008 Acura front grill chrome emblem fit in the same place where the H emblem sits on the 2009 Euro Accord's grill?

I feel "IT" has sharp styling and would eventually get more approval. Seeing both Gen1 & Gen2 side by side "The Element" makes the grill on Gen 1 look real dull and boring.... I applaud Acura
for taking a BOLD step in deciding to stick with the element despite the response in the initial customer review....

I hate to say this but I am beginning to like the ELEMENT!! At first, it was enough to break the deal for me but the more I see it, the more I can see its potential. It must have been the same thing that happened to the developing team...after you look at it long enough, it grows on you. I agree with sr4dt, you have to appaud ACURA for sticking to an unpopular design and thinking outside the box...hopefully it will pay off in the long run. The fact that it grew on me doesn't mean it will on others. Now despite what some people have said, I seem to LOVE the new rear design of the car. I have always hated following another TSX and seeing how narrow and tall this car looked....It now has a bit more balanced proportion from the back (width to height)...My two cents ..... (BTW... you need 2 million 2 cents to buy a $40 000 TSX......
