Decklid Spoiler?

Thinking of getting one, sometimes seems like the back needs to be 'finished off' somehow, though am not really sure. Can't find a lot of images on 2nd gen with the thing on. Opinions; go for it or leave it alone?

The TSX has a natural lip to the bodywork on the trunk that makes it look great without the spoiler. While the spoiler is nice and tasteful, it's so small that it's affect is barely noticiable in my opinion. Given it's absurdly high price, I don't think it's worth the cost (around $500 if memory serves). As a disclaimer, my opinion is skewed by the fact that I think it's silly to put spoilers or wings on 4 door sedans. IMHO if one wants a truly sporty car, one needs to get a car with just 2 doors, and even better - with just 2 seats.

I had the OEM decklid spoiler installed on my 2010 V6. I just liked the way it looks and gives me a good sense of where the back of my car is. I guess this isnt as important with the camera, but nonetheless, I like it.

um, i really like the look of the decklid spoiler, but i really do not like the idea of drilling permanent holes into my decklid.

anyone consider one of these with 3M SUPER DUPER STRENGTH tape?

Can someone give specifics about which 3m tape you are all talking about?

My friend just installed a lip spoiler and he used extra 3m double sided tape and had no problems.

now my next question would be.. if i use the 3M tape, and i wanted to take it off later on the down the road (oh i don't know.. change of taste and maturity.. lol) will the tape come off without taking off the paint/coating?

does anybody have the specific 3M tape brand/model to use?

the 3m tape is what is on the underside of badging...."TSX" "ACURA" all has 3M tape in order for it to adhere to the body of the car.

so, when you apply this 3M tape to a deck lid spoiler, it would be the same as putting on badges.
with no ill effects to the paint.

And that is the brand...3M.

The OEM decklid actually comes with double sided 3m tape attached. You can essentially just stick it on. But i can see it lifting over time. I think, if you are going to get the deck lid, have it installed correctly. If you leave it on for a while the paint underneath will fade unevenly with the rest of the car anyways. Plus the spoiler is pretty subtle, so it wont make the car look like a kids car, like the mugen wing would.

^if you remove your badges, you will not notice any difference in paint.

saying that the paint around the decklid will fade is false.

how does the tape not leave a raised gap on the decklid? is it paper thin or does the decklid spoiler have a recess underneath it for the tape?

The tape is fairly thin and the back of the spoiler is recessed, so it gives you space for the tape.

I just bought more 3m tape to make it extra secure at the automotive section of walmart...its the same that comes with the back of the spoiler and it works well. Much better than drilling in my opinion.

yeah I installed my deck lid spoiler without drilling the holes on the trunk.
I used only 3m tape.
I installed like a month ago and it is still perfect.

I have the OEM decklid spoiler on my '11 TSX and see it adds that necessary "something" to the back without a large wing. I of course disagree that a lip spoiler only be on a sport car, as i'm pretty sure a lip is pure aesthetics unless the whole car is aerodynamically sound.

I had the dealer drill/tape it to ensure it won't move. The only thing I dislike is it collects dirt/dust which once would have fallen off the back.. other than that I like it.

When I got it installed I had the dealer match AcuraSuperStore prices and only charge install of .6 hours since an hour was blatant rip-off. All said it was about $360 to buy/install.

I went with the drilling route so I bought my decklid about 1 month ago from this ebay seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

Bought it for $115 since I had a 10% off ebay coupon. Then I had it installed by a very generous local body shop for $40 drilled and taped. I found this body shop through Google search and read their reviews: 4.5 of 5 stars about (20-30 reviewers). In total, I spent $155 and the results were great. If I didn't tell anyone, people thought it's OEM. So far so good.
