Can I get a regular key?

I don't like the key fob on my 2009 TSX. Too big. Takes up too much room in my pocket. All I want is a key. Nothing more. No batteries or switchblade action. Just a key. Think valet key but fully functional.

Where can I get one?

Doesn't the key need the chip for the immobilizer?

^^ She is correct. What you need is another valet key with built-in immobilizer chip so you can start the car.

Uh, the valet key opens the doors and will start the car, it's only not *suppposed* to fit the glovebox or the trunk access through the rear seats. That is, unless you had an early production car where the valet key operated the tumbler on top of the back seats too, like it wasn't supposed to do. That was fixed with a recall months ago.

Leave the trunk button operational (from the glovebox defeat switch) then you have a regular key.

(If the valet key didn't operate the ignition, the valet person couldn't park or retrieve your car.)

I would check with your dealer. They might be able to put the cut on a blank that is not a valet. Valet keys are physically thicker and that is the only difference. If they do not have master blanks, you might be able to use a Honda blank. Might have to go to a locksmith for that though.

I would try one of the newer Accord or CRV keys. You would have to find some to try to program for you. That way you can return it. Just don't cut the key. They can be reprogramed over and over again. I have done it for some of the Civic SI guys who want the switch blade keys so it should work the other way.
