Best place to get TPMS sensors?
Hey guys,
I have my aftermarket and OEM rims. The AM rims have the stock TPMS sensors so now I have to pick up a set of TPMS for the OEM rims to be used this winter.
Is the Acura dealership the only place to buy them or would an aftermarket TPMS work with a 2011 Acura TSX w/ Tech?
Thanks,
Matt

The old RDX TPMS sensors worked on some 2G TSX's. Not sure if they work on the 2011s. 42753-STK-A02/A03/A04 is the part number for the MDX/RDX/Pilot/08 TSX...these I believe worked for some people's cars and some said it didn't work. I bought a set of these and put them on my winter tires...won't know if they work till I switch tires but I got my fingers crossed.

Hmm the RDX seems possible, i'll just wait and see/read about another 2011 TSX that has them installed and make sure they work properly. I don't want to be the test subject again. Its not worth the savings haha.

The '09 sensors inside my GTC01s work fine on my 2011, FYI.

Quick search of ebay
RDX Sensors (Same serial as posted above) $81.
vs.
09 TSX Sensors $319.95
LOL
edit* Each price is for a full set of 4 TPMS

So I just bought the RDX sensors from AcuraOEM on ebay. Do I just install these as is? They didn't come with any adhesive on the tpms at all. I woulda assumed you installed and 1 side would stick to the side of the rim or something. No instructions, just 4 TPMS in 4 bubble wrap bags.
Can someone with a higher degree of Acura TSX knowledge enlighten me? I have a 7 day return policy lolololol

you will need to buy 4 washers and 4 nuts to secure the sensors in place. you can get these from your acura/honda dealership for around 20 bucks for the set.
TPMS rebuild kit:
42754-STK-A01 NUT, TPMS VALVE
42755-STK-A01 WASHER, TPMS VALVE
unless the set you have already came with a new rebuild kit.

I found a salvage yard that will get me 4 TMPS for the 2nd gen TSX for about $180 shipped or pick up BNIB OEM for $320. I just haven't switched my wheels over yet. From what I remember about my digging the RDX sensors will also work. Oh and look on Ebay for that washer/parts kit, its a fraction of the dealer price.

the reason i need tpms in my winter set is so that I can turn off VSA...winter tires useless otherwise, especially when grinding your way up a hill

Once the TPMS sensors are installed, do you need to do anything to get the car to recognize them? I just switched to my snow tires but don't have TPMS sensors installed yet. Hoping to do something in the next couple weeks.

if you got the sensors used, those nuts and washers are useless as they can only be torqued once.
the RDX sensors worked perfectly for my 09 and they're plug and play. no reprogramming needed.

By reading that means the (i) stopped flashing right? But I'll assume if it works then it should be like nothing has changed thus there should be no indicators on in the 1st place?
I ran no TPMS last winter and I was good until the last month when it mysteriously turned on. Peace fuel economy.

So I just did a 80 km round trip on the Highway doin 140+ kmh no problems at all. Lights didnt show, none of the tires exploded. I checked MID it read Tire presure fine. So RDX TPMS sensors work on an 09-10' TSX for sure lol. Not sure on 11-12' cuz I know they had a different program/tune/thingymajigger and maybe that could affect it in some way.

Ha. Funny thing is I did have to return them the first time. Discount Tire Direct installed the wrong TPMS sensors when they sent me the rims and tires I bought online. My car would display the incorrect pressures for about 3 days then I got the TPMS error light. There is a brick/mortar Discount Tire Direct store about 40 miles away that was able to diagnose the problem, get the correct TPMS, and install them free of charge. They have worked fine since then which is about 7 months.
I bought aftermarket TPMS for my old 05 RL as well from Discount Tire Direct and had no problems with them.

Not sure if these help, but they show two different makers of TPMS for Honda/Acura, including which maker makes sensors for which models. The RDX - TSX compatibility coincides with sensor maker, but I'm not sure if it is that straightforward.

I didn't try the RDX specific models. I purchased THESE via eBay. Total cost was $180 shipped + another $60 for install/balance.
A little more than I wanted to spend, but I'll likely keep the car for a several years (probably long enough to wear-out the snow tires) and didn't want to deal with the warning light that long.
