Appreciative son

While I've always been appreciative of my parents for what they have done throughout my life (College tuition, Love, my TSX, and much more ), I've never experienced what I felt earlier last night. After a typical work night, I drove home and pulled into my driveway. I got out and did my usual walk around to see if I scraped anything (I know i have paranoia ) and came to the realization that I drive a 2010 ACURA. I am only 20 years old and have been with this car since I was 19. I thought to myself wow, how lucky am I to drive such a elegant car that very few people in the world have the luxury of owning let alone a 20 year old.
I rung the doorbell and gave a huge hug to my moms.

I know there are a few other youngins on here such as Ed, tsxkid, etc. I just wanna let you know how grateful we should be for having what we have. I know it sounds kind of corny and all, but man it really hit me hard last night. I am one lucky kid wit 2 helluva parents. If you felt like I just wasted 2 minutes of your life please forgive me, I just wanted to vent out a little emotion . Thanks for listening zine and I hope this post can relate to a few others cruising these forums

you should write all that in a (paper) letter and give it to your parents. I'm pretty sure they'll appreciate it much more than anyone else ever will.

good on you, man.

great post! Glad to see other people appreciative about having such a nice car at such a young age. Not every teenager has parents that are willing to spend so much on a car for their child. Definitely appreciative of mine!

People tend to automatically look down on anyone whos younger and has a car that their parents helped them out with, but for the most part i think older people need to realize that not everyones a snotty little spoiled brat

Good on you man, i feel the same way too, im thankful for what i have and i do the best i can to take care of my car and keep it in good shape

When I was your age, I got an Acura too.

1992 Legend, gold color.

Yep, I'll say you're pretty fortunate too.

Good stuff man....when parents give you a car like that, definitely think of it that way: that your parents love you and that you are lucky to have parents that reward you for being a great kid. However, also think of it practically....they are also investing in your future.

You like the car? Good, drive it forever. You didn't get an econobox, so it won't look like a cheap car 5 years from now. You now don't have to go buy yourself a car when you are done with whatever it is you are doing. I know too many people, myself included, that said after their first 'real' job, they were going to go out and buy a nice car as a reward. Its a waste of money, IMO.

You parents just made a $30k investment in you. Appreciate it, and repay that with both gratitude and a bit of smarts. Make good use of the $30k bump they just gave you.

definitely agree with this. i paid for my lease myself(i've had jobs since i was 15, plus i save money very well, like bday money). i saved up about 11k in total so i covered most of the lease, with my parents adding a little bit, but they cover insurance, among other things. i love them for everything they've done for me, and for helping me make it possible to save up that money. really helped me learn the value of a buck

Im with the pyro on this one....ive been working at my parents pizza place since i was 8 years old saving for a car and when i came of age to buy one i did! Brand spankin new and i thought i deserved it! But i couldnt have done it with my parents help....slaving 50 hours a week at the age of 8 would mean nothing if they didnt pay me, and not only that they were the ones that told me and taught me how to save! and it also helps to have a great negotiator for a mom haha

There's so many damn spoiled kids in this world so it's pretty refreshing to hear that some kids are still appreciative of what they've been given. Good post.

Hey man, you forgot Modesto in your list

Anyway, I totally agree with you dude. Honestly, I'm 16 and I truly don't deserve a car like this yet, I'm totally thankful for it and love my parents for it. It's true that most people think kids like us are spoiled or snotty but I honestly really hope that I come off as that or look like that

Good post!

Yea I definitely feel blessed for having 2 of the greatest parents in the world. I worked my ass off as well. I received a 4.0 GPA last spring semester eventually leading up to me driving home a brand new TSX (Honor Roll since my freshman year). But it's also very refreshing to see that many of you can relate. I am far from a snobby kid but I still get the impression of being one from how I dress and what I drive.
But regardless I do understand the value of a dollar.

The ideal owner of a car of this price range should be making well above 80k. I read somewhere stating that your car purchase should not go above 30 percent of your annual income. From that statistical standpoint, I should be riding a bike lmao. But its really great to see how appreciative you guys are, no matter what age.

You can even put on some blackmail pressure for not turning them into due to child labor laws.

I have a problem with younger kids acting like little d-bags and having everything handed to them. Those being appreciative for it is a totally different story.

i'm not that much older than the OP but yes, it's really refreshing to see young people being appreciative and thankful for what they're given. Parents definitely work very hard to maintain a living and it saddens me when kids deride them for not being given the newest "it" thing or even a car. i've always learnt that driving is a privilege and not a right

i received a very unexpected amount of financial assistance from my dad when i bought my car last month. i am covering everything else, but that contribution made it possible for me to get the car

I just wanted to shed some light on this post. I too got a brand new 2010 TSX and am only 18. I actually told my dad just to buy me a Civic, but he insisted on a "more luxury" car. I am very thankful and lucky to have this car. My parents have always put me before themselves. Lol, compared to my stepmom she drives a Honda Odyssey. Of course, if I do something stupid, etc. They would probably take my car. But, still I do very much appreciate them.

That's awesome. My situation was very similar. My parents wanted me to buy a car that was safe but also upscale since they're already shelling out a large sum of money for a new car..

My parents, like yours, are selfless and always put me before themselves....My mom would buy food for herself, take a bite and give me the rest..i would have to fight her for her to take another bite... .I will definitely follow her and my dads guideline as a parent one day..awesome reply man

^ The part about your mom and food, reminds me of my mom. What our parents give us is immeasurable, and it's a debt we can never repay. We just have to try our best to make them proud of us.

I feel lucky as well I was 17 a JR in High School when I got mine and I bitched about not getting a BMW 3 series for months and used to think my Acura looked odd from certain angles. But recently I have had those same exact thoughts as you and stopped bitching.

edit: i feel especially grateful when i see someone driving a hoopty and they're like 40 years old

Tell me about it man..I have friends who are on the opposite end of the spectrum..their parents splurge on themselves..it makes me wonder how they can be so selfish...but your right, I don't know how I can repay them..

Yea definitely..My first choices was either a 4G TL or G37 coupe..with the TSX as a third..I actually worked the details out with a used G37x with 3,000 miles on the odometer but had to pull on it after buying an Autocheck..Regardless though, I know what you mean with the odd looks from different angles...but it is hard to name another rear that looks as sexy as our tsx's (maybe the s5 or the new 5 and 7 series)...

anyways, one alternative that can easily fix that problem is the aero kit..The TSX only looks "odd" because of the 09-10 original front bumper IMO..the Aero Kit makes the front so much more aggressive

Yea, my parents didn't exactly give me a TSX. but they did pitch in around 5k..which basically allowed me to pay in full.
Both my parents driver the standard econo boxes aka base accords SUVs.
Problem is, once you start up here, you don't want to drive anything below the TSX.
