Is anyone else annoyed by the "pop" when the V6 starts?
I asked the dealer about this and they said it's the way the engine is designed. Something about the way the air inlet is designed which I didn't really understand. It sounds like a faint backfire to me. My only concern is that down the road after the car is out of warranty, I will face an expensive repair because of this. Does anyone have any insight into what makes this "pop" and what the long term effect might be?

I haven't noticed any kind of popping or backfire when mine starts, but I do get the "thud" when the car is in gear and starts to move. The more I listen to it; the more it sounds like it's coming from the engine mount and attributed to the heavy engine weight.
Just to be on the safeside, have you checked the spark plugs?

Thanks SubtleWordplay. I did a search for 'pop' and 'backfire' before I started this thread, but I guess it was really a 'thud'.
I really like the car and am fine with the 'thud' if that is normal. However, I would be very interested in hearing a more specific explaination of what's causing the noise - if anyone is being told. If it is the engine mount, then I'd at least have some idea how much it would cost to be replaced if it eventually failed.
