2ND Generation brake issue?

ive just had to have my rear brakes replaced after 35k... thought it was weird my backs would go before my fronts so i did a lil research... apparently there is a law suit against acura bc they made the back pads too small and ppl were running thru em rather quickly.... anyone else have this issue or heard about it? i contacted acura and they said my car wasnt made in that factory and wouldnt be doing a recall or refund which i think is BS but what am i gonna do

35k is respectable for brake pads, especially smaller ones. Maybe your front brakes are just better?

There is a lawsuit as we speak but breaks is a wear and tear item so acura wont cover it sorry budd just upgrade to cross drill rotors n pads

"....my car wasn't made in that factory..."

I think all TSXs are made in the Sayama factory in Japan. Perhaps Acura meant that your pads didn't come from the factory the defective ones came from.

Do you know what model years were affected by the supposedly smaller brake pads ?

Brake pads are cheap. A good set of Akebono Ceramics are ~$60. After all, it's a wear and tear item and you got 35k out of it. I wouldn't sweat it.

Akebonos are great, so are Hawks. I have Akebonos for both the front and rear.

One gripe I have with our cars are the rotors...For the 09's anyways. They fade/warp way too fast.

I had a 2002 rsx-s, the rear pads lasted till about 70k, the fronts still had some meat left, but I changed all 4 anyway. My wife's 2005 rsx-s also lasted about the same.

Judging by owners posts here, I'm not counting on the tsx brakes to last as long

I've also had good experience with Akebonos. On my '02 TL-S I swapped-out the rotors as well as pads. I'll do the same when the times comes to upgrade the TSX. It wasn't that much more expensive and made a world of difference.

It's critical to use the correct torque applied evenly to prevent warp and to re-torque after 100 miles. Once warped they're scrap metal. Only good shops will actually take the time to properly torque wheels so invest in a wrench and re-torque as soon as possible. It must be done by hand, no torque wrench built is accurate enough.

we had tons of rear brake problems on the 2008 accords (same as ours) 15k-20k they stopped replacing them for free because of the law suit. they now make a longer lasting pad with a spring wire to pull pads away from rotor the seem to be lasting much longer. the new accords and tsx use a lot more rear brake than past models they apply first before the front to keep the car from nose diving.

On my 2010 tsx they told me my rear pads needed to be replaced when I brought it in for its second oil change. The car had a little over 16k miles. They checked and my car wasnt covered under the lawsuit. I complained to the service manager that 16k miles was ridiculous to have to replace pads. He agreed and replaced them free of charge. On my first tsx (2007) I had to replace them at 32k miles. I think at 35k you are about right. Hopefully I dont have this issue with my new 2012. Im at 10.5k now, we will see.

I have 22k on the rear pads, these things should not be worn out this quick. Replacing them once a year is bullshit.

There was a lawsuit on 2009 honda accords and acura tsx's having to get their rear brake pads replaced within a year of normal driving. It was settled before a recall was made and people got vouchers of around 100-200 dollars or so for the snafu. The brake pads have since been replaced with a better material.

I replaced my fronts at 52K. The rears still look good. I got the car with 38K, so I'm not sure if anything was replaced before I got it. When I had my Impala, I was replacing front and rear pads and rotors every year, at about 20K. That was with normal driving.

Is that number, 143K real?
How could possibly a pad can last that long?

Do you still have the Akebono exact model# (or p/n)?
"A set" meant for all 4 tires or just front or back?

brakes are always wear and tear. warranty wont ever cover them.
i had a brand new accord in 2005 that had to have brakes replaced with less than 20k on the clock. i bitched and complained til i at least got a discount but yea.. they dont give you a warranty break on brakes.

I failed to mention that i called Corp and i had a ref # to take it in for goodwill, but i think it will just be easier to replace the pads myself. I keep forgetting to call in and close out the ref#.
