2012 Camry aspires to be a TSX?

When I'm driving, I'm always checking out other cars and specifically looking for other Acuras. I've got a pretty good eye for cars and can tell what most of them are, well before I'm in range to read the nameplates on the cars. Recently, I've been fooled a few times from a distance. When I see a 2012 Camry from a distance, I swear it strongly resembles a 2G TSX front end. I've been fooled a few times until I get closer to the car. Has anyone else shared my observation? I find it flattering that the Camry seems to be influenced by the TSX's styling......but it will never be a TSX.

Eh I don't see it, however I'm sure u are not alone in the thought. I actually had one ride my a$$ on an on ramp a couple of days ago, and then attempt to "smoke me" once on the highway. As if i would ever let that happen LOL. Still had the msrp sticker thingy in the window so guessing he just got and wanted to see what it could do. Silly man, didn't know u never try to mess with an Acura lol

My folks just purchased a 12 SE V6 Camry. That thing is a beast. It'll smoke my TSX w/out even breaking a sweat. Still prefer my wagon though.

yea the v6 mid-size sedans (altima, accord, camry, etc) are all pretty quick considering their target audience. Actually, now that I think about it...people who buy those cars aren't looking for performance, so why do they stuff 270hp+ motors in them?

it actually resembles the front end of a 07-08 TL-S.

with the chrome strip in the lower grills next to the fogs.

The same thing has happened to me. I was hit and traumatized by a Camry and despite my family owning one, I will forever despise them and curse when I see one.

A pesky se v6 gave my Trailblazer SS a hard time once. And I'm pushing almost 450hp w/a tune and mild mods.

The camry v6's are fast and no joke. the prev gen would be an ultimate sleeper in xle trim. Too bad they have the handling properties of cream cheese.

The Camry is a sleeper...it is true in that market segment of midsize sedans why do they stuff "massive" engines in them lol. I don't think I'd take my chances with a v6 camry lol...maybe an i4 base model lol.....even with my twin turbo

The TL does it better but its in a different segment so you cant rly compare in a way.

maybe the older camry's were tackling the TSX's trying to make room for these new camry's to make a play, but our TSX's block hard and those bitches aint scoring a down on us.

yes, i did use a football analogy... fuck you!

Toyota is such a copycat company. The front totally looks Acuraish and the butt is like the current Volvo S60.

Ok, I drove a new Camry SE V6 with a friend, and it has almost as much body roll as a Ford F-150 Raptor sadly! It had some power, not going to lie, but it torque steered like a Mazda Speed 3 and the traction control would not turn off! I asked the salesman why it wouldn't, and he asked me why I would want to turn it off! Really!? the navi resembles that of an Acura one, and the front end truly does have the look of a TSX. The i4 though is still slow and sluggish though, no pep at all like a TSX. (I'm pretty sure the salesman at the Toyota dealership was not too fond of me comparing the i4 Camry to my TSX i4, with pretty much all of my remarks going negative about the Camry.) The paddle shifters were alright, but that transmission was slow to respond, even in sport (squential) mode and with manual control. So basically, they tried to outdo the TSX, even with a slight bit of mimicery, and still failed! Keep it up TSX!

yes because the salesman is there to earn a living and to SELL the product. He didn't make the car and could probably care less what an individuals perception is regarding the car.

Do you have a picture of a Camry LE with the chrome grill instead of an SE with the painted grill? From a distance, the LE has been the one that has fooled me a couple of times.

I'm with you, i can usually tell a car from far away what it is. Even with some cars i'm very familiar with, the TSX for example, I can even tell it's light configuration at night (when i see one at night speeding from behind me, the hoon side of me always speeds up and never lets him/her pass...) but i have been fooled by the new camry, and even the previous gen camry from far away in my rear view.

fuck the camry stealing our designs and wrecking our member's cars!

Those things are pretty quick. 0-60 in like 5.6 seconds? That is faster than my G, although I haven't raced any V6 camrys too see if its true

I saw the new Camry yesterday when I was getting lunch so I parked next to it and took these pics. What do you guys think? Similar?

Well, they both have round tires and 4 doors. Oh but I think the Camry got the better semi-corner parking spot.

The Camry reminds me of an overstyled and stretched Civic. It just looks generic like the current generation Jetta and previous generation Sonata.

The Lotus Evora is a gorgeous car but only in the full spec'd out version GTE(?) if not I'd be happy with an Elise

Camry looks like a 2G TSX from the side for me. I was driving along a black one (Camry) on the freeway and kept thinking to myself, "That's one nice looking TSX." I didn't realize it was a Camry until I saw the front grille.

They have similar greenhouses and body line.

When I compare them upclose, I recognize the similarities from the side and from the front but never mistake a Camry for a TSX. But sometimes while driving, if I spot a '12 Camry far off, I have made the mistake for a brief second. Actually, I've seen enough '12 Camrys lately, that I rarely make the mistake any more. And it only ever happened when seeing a Camry with the chrome grill, not the ones that have the painted grills as pictured above.

I think if you look at any 4 door sedan, they look extremely similar from the side (if you don't look at the rims, tail lights, and headlights). The styling serve a purpose both aesthetically and functionally in terms of aerodynamics, so there isn't much you can do to the styling without compromising functionality. The major/unique styling queues are the rear end and front end, which is where it matters the most in my opinion
