2009 brake noise

Hey all,

So I bought my 09 tsx in august of last year with 88k on it, after 2-3 months (approx. 91k) I noticed a screeching noise in my brakes. I went to the dealership and they told me one of my pads have to be replaced (around $300). I didn't do it and thought i'd wait till i got my own mechanic. I've been searching on the forums recently and I found out that a lot of people are having this same issue. I also read up on the action suit and all that.

I was wondering, if buying ebc brake pads and rotors (or anything not from the acura dealership) will fix this issue? I'm worried if i buy it from them ill just get the same problem later on.

Thanks in advance!

Usually pads squeal when the are at the end of their life by design. That quote for 1 pad is crazy. I used to have a mercury marauder. 4 wheel disc brakes. Ceramic. And that quote was $570 for all 4. Any brake shop should able to do this work…shop it around

thanks! i was only wondering because i was reading on forums that a lot of people were having this issue, and the dealerships would replace the pads but the noise would come back within 5000-10000k.

91K miles? Umm . . . your brakes are worn out (they do that you know). You'll pay top dollar for labor at a dealer, though the OE pads are actually pretty good. $300 isn't for one brake pad (no one replaces just one brake pad), so you should at least find out what you'd be buying. If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, they're pretty easy to replace. If not, you may want to shop around for a better deal. Don't be swayed into buying more brake than you need; OE or similar is fine for street use. You'll probably want to replace the rotors too.

i heard the OE brake pads weren't good though, as a lot of people with the 09 tsx had their brake pads run out very fast, as per the action suit, which is why i was thinking of getting either ebc or hawk.
why would i need to replace my rotors too? would replacing the pads not be enough?

The rotors have been a weak spot with TSX's since the beginning, but if yours seem to be OK, then save your money. I have to assume that the replacement OE pads are not the same ones that had problems earlier on. Don't misunderstand me, I wouldn't (haven't, and don't) buy Acura (Honda) pads, but something equivalent should work fine. I happen to prefer Wagner ThermoQuiet Ceramic pads (around $32 front, $28 rear).
