WTF!! Why do mt 18s with falken ride so terrible

Hey guys earlier this year I upgrade to 18x7.5 with an offset of about 40 )yeah I know ots low but got a wick price on the rims. Tires Falkens ZE 912s wiith 225/40R18.

Now I just switched back to stockies and my ride comfort has gone through the roof. I dont know but the way the car drives and handles as if I was rid'n on 20s. I could hear and feel every impecfection in the rode., car was very sluggish and poor gas mieage... Etc etc

my question was could cause the ride to be so terrible considering I only had 18s.
1 - wheels tires too heavy
2 - wrong offset
3 - any suspension bushings that may need replacing that affect ride quality

Man I love my 18s but the ride quality sux ass

Your offset doesnt make it ride smoother. How much psi did you run with the 18s?

I doubt 18s would be too heavy. I ran 912s in the summer and they were good.

I ran about 36 to 38 throughtout the summer. I just cant believe how nice my whip rides on stock wheels and tires. So much more nimble and agile. I really want to find out exactly what the issue might be. Some point this weekend Im gonna weight the 18s with tires and compare them to stock

What brand our the wheels? You can usually find weight information online.

your ride comfort isnt going to be as good beacuse your tires are probably thinner than stocks wchihc will make you fell potholes more and a +40 offset isnt low at all and offset has nothing to do with how your ride feels, just check the tire pressure and see how much psi your running it could be that

For one you have much less sidewall, that will transmit more noise and vibration. 2, how heavy are your rims. Wheel weight plays a big roll in handling and comfort.

I bet your 18" wheels must weight like a ton. Also, check the tire weight as well. In general, Michelin makes the lightest tires although expensive.

Heavy wheels and heavy tires do make throttle response and acceleration sluggish. For ultimate performance, you want the wheel/tire combo to be as lightweight as possible.

FamusFace, i felt the same way you did when i put on my 18" a-specs with the same tires.. it felt noticeably slower too.. i installed the UR pulley and it felt like it balanced it out lol..

back on topic, i just figured the reason for the shitty ride quality was because of everything fsstyms1 stated above and being pretty low on tein ss. its the price you pay i guess.

The rims are Incubus Boost Black, got them brand new form victoria tires at good price. Can anyone find the weight of these rims for me. I look for them but couldn't find anything. I really think that their might be a big weight difference between these rims and the OEM.

Is it deja vu or something ?

FamusFace, you bought the Incubus rims back in June this year, and you told us they weight in at 30lbs a piece. Now you're asking the same question all over again.

Oh yeah I remember that threat but to be honest I don't remember where i got 30 ibs from. I'll be weight tires and rims mounted this weekend to see how it compares to stock set up.

I find it hard to believe that 20-30 pounds (tires ad rims) would be such a dramatic difference.

Let me tell you this.

I have been using a lightweight 18" rim (20 lbs) for the summer tires. I was using the 24 lbs Michelin Pilot Sport (225/45/18) before I switched to the 27 lbs BridgeStone RE-01R (same size) this past summer. Because I wanted to try out the RE-01R since it is an extreme-performance category tire.

Oh boy. With just 3 extra lb of weight per corner, I can immediately feel the sluggishness in throttle response and acceleration. Next time, I won't make the same mistake by buying heavy tires no matter how sticky they are.

rims tires wieghted!!

Okay so after a couple of weeks of having started this thread I just found out that my aftermarket tire and rims are a combined 55 ibs per corner. HOLLY SHYT MAN!!! That explains everything..
,
Falkens ZE912's are approx 24,9 ibs. So that means my rims are a staggering 30 ibs...

What the fuck was I thinking, I had no idea the weight of rims matter so much with handling and performance.

Does anyone know the stock wieght for tires and rims for '99??

I don't know what TL-P wheels weigh, but stock TL-S wheels are about 25 lbs each, and the stock Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires are 23 lbs each, so each corner on a stock TL-S would be 48 lbs - 7 lbs less than your combo.

man. 18's are nice but it's not too bad if you have Tein SS or something you could change the dampening. I put mines more on the harsh side cause i like to feel my car. lol i'm running 18's but tires do make a big difference. I run on Falken's and they're good for the price you pay for i would go for Michelin's if i had the money. I didn't realize weight made that much of a difference but i guess it does.
