Upgrading the springs on my Tein SS...
The Tein SS kit came with the following springs.
Front:
Spring rate --> 7/392
Part number --> SI070-01250
Rear:
Springs rate --> 4/224
Part number --> SG040-01250
Now, I think these springs are a bit too soft and want to upgrade to stiffer springs.
I'm currently looking at the following springs --
Front:
SI100-01250
141
Rear:
SG070-01250
152
Front has a stiffness rating of 10, and the rear is at 7.
What do you guys think? I want stiffer springs, but not too stiff. Thanks.

I ordered the rear from a local speed shop back in 8/04 for $165. The rear was I believe a 7. I think the highest you can go on the rear is 7. They sent the shop springs for an WRX instead, so I didn't even bother with it anymore.
Pure Adrenaline - Is that the highest you can go in the front per Tein?

what are some of the ratings for other common springs? Comptech, Eibach, Tein H Tech...etc. Sorry for the slight hijack! But I really cant imagine wanting my TL to be stiff as hell like a real sports car - I already think its too stiff as is - but there is no way I will go back to the stock 4X4 look.

John,
We do not have many problems with this but of course there are certain
cases where a customer may need higher spring rates. For different springs
they cost $50.00 each and for the rear you could go up to 6kg/mm without
having to revalve your shocks. Please follow the provided link to find a
TEIN Authorized Dealer in your area.

According to the E-mail from Tein yesterday, 10F/7R will work perfectly on our cars. And they said 65 per. How long ago is that E-mail from?
Neil -- They want 65 dollars per spring, but I haven't talked to any distributors yet.
Bread -- I don't think you drive your car hard enough. Not that it's a bad thing, though.

Update us if you do get it and let us know how it rides!

Honest to God, if you're telling me that the Tein is not soft during hard cornering, then you really are NOT driving it hard enough. Hence the reason I'm looking into the stiffer springs. I'm just held back for the moment by the fact that I need to decide and pick the appropriate stiffness; I don't want have to buy another set because they are too stiff/soft.

anyways if u find a set of hard coilovers or a set of really hard springs/shocks....and i don't think its good for our TL....you have to remember man....our cars are TL Type S.....its not a RSX Type S those......

too bad Tein doesn't have the Flex on our car, SS and basic is really tuned for street driving
i would not recommend using Tein on the track coz even with sway bars the nose still dives a lot
even my Apexi would have a nose dive in hard corners, they are all for comfortable than racing

I'm gonna be running Cobalt Friction Spec-C pads with the Rotora slotted rotors in the rear (warehouse sold the last pair to another customer, although it was on hold for me, so it's coming in this week, I guess.
They are formulated for better trail-braking control. I will be racing my car at the Expo 5 in May at Mid-America Motorplex, and going to Speed Trials at Gingerman Raceway, so I need a setup in the rear that will help me better control trail-braking. It's gonna be fun.

Meh, too soft. I like knowing how the road condition is. With stiffer suspension, I can feel the road better, and it's more communicative.

It's not the dampers. It's the springs that are too soft. These were meant for the Accord, and the extra weight of the TL is overworking them.

It's very tempting.. I want to go back to lowered ride as long as I can get the stock ride.
Questions!!
When the spring is rated at 6kg/mm, would it be stiffer than 8kg/mm? I don't know how to read those numbers.
thanks.

No, the higher the number, the stiffer it is.
Stock Tein SS comes with 7F/4R. Tein USA said that 10F/7R will be a good setup if I'm looking for a slightly stiffer handling charactieristic.
Now I just need to save up 260 bucks. Bah.

Ok guys, I'm gonna order the 9kgf/502lb springs for the front. If I go any higher than 9kgf, than I would have to send in the stuts to have it revalved at about $100 per strut which I'm not going to do. I'm also thinking about ordering the rears at 6kgf. What I wanna ask is, shld I waste money getting stiffer rear springs, is it worth it? The front has to be done b/c i'm bottoming out alot and I don't want to max out the dampening to stop it.
It's costing $180 shipped for the front and $340 for front and rear!

Hey man did you get your springs yet cuz i found them for $200 at www.heeltoeauto.com i just ordered them so will see the ride is
Is that 2 springs for $200? If it is they ripped you off! You need to call other authorized distributors, I was quoted $360 for 4 (front and back) at one place. I got 4 for $260 which is the amount it shld be. On tein site they are $65 for 1 spring.
I installed them 3 weeks ago (front 9kgf and rear 6 kgf). It is stiffer; I would say about 10 to 15%. I can't really tell if it's still bottoming out b/c my rear left seat lock is stuck so I have about 2 inch gap all around instead of 1.25/1.5 inch as b/4.
Getting my alignment tomorrow. I've been spraying wd40 once a day on the left rear for the past week. Hopefully it'll come loose b/4 the alignment. Let you know how it goes! Iwould've liked to go with front at 10kgf but approx $100 to revalve each is crazy.

Silly man...did you even go to the link and see the price before you started going off? I am a Sponsor of this website and do not make a habit of ripping people off.
10kg is not really going to kill you. It is just outside recommended stiffness, but you are not likely to have an issue. We have gone 3kg over with many customers with no problems.

I did goto your site. If that is $100 per spring and add'l $15 for tapered, than that's $115 per spring correct?
