They are decent entry level coilovers i guess. good price, but no shock dampening (which is most important to me). I have also heard they are 'soft' and if you lower it too much you will bottom out a lot.

Try looking into k-sport coilovers.

remember, you always have the option of stiffer spring rates from tein if you're worried about bottoming out or the springs being too soft.

The TEIN Basics are a great street setup. They are firmer than stock, but not stiff, and they offer ride height adjustability. Plus you get springs and shocks mated for each other right out of the box.

^^^ I agree. I would definitely recommend them as a street setup, especially since you want to go low but not too low. Currently, I have them set at a tight two finger gap. I've never scraped with the kit on. The ride is really comfy still on smooth roads and just a bit harsh on rougher roads.

REALLY?!?! Not even driveways? I am just a bit lower with a 1 finger gap last year and i scraped pretty much every driveway "ramps" except for the really gradual low ones.

Slakerz' car is a transformer so it can do things our regular TLs can't

yes but you dont know what kind of driveways they have where he lives. we have some massive driveways and speedbumps. yesterday I bottomed out on a speed bump and I am on stock hight without a lip. like they were big enough to rip your wheels off if you drove too fast over them

If 'soft' means . . . performance upgrade yet still comfortable as daily driver . . . then I concur. Tein Basics are a VERY good option for people that aren't planning to autoX and/or have an affinity for their kidneys.

ANY coilover could potentially bottom out if it's lowered too much.

If you want something stiff, you can get Eibach's setup of springs, dampeners and anti-roll bars for about the same price as Teins. IMO, KSports are a poor choice unless you don't really care about day to day comfort . . . or that of your passengers.

This is almost on the lowest setting.
The ride feels great. Its a little stiffer than stock but still rides smooth.
I really dont have any problem with bottoming out unless I hit a deep pot hole.
I wouldnt go this low unless you dont have a problem going sideways over speed bumps and driveways.

I know this is a noobish question, but can the basics be set at stock height. Reason why I'm asking is because of the winters here in MN. Also, what's the lowest drop you can go without needing a camber kit?

I believe the minimum drop with the basics is -0.9" in the front and back, so the highest you could be is 1" lower than stock. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

The need for camber kits varies from car to car, but I'd say any drop over 1.5" greatly increases the possible need for a camber kit.
