Strut bushings??

Have ad a loud clunk in front left and right. Was told by mechanic that struts are good and is believable since the car (00' TL-P) only has 60k on it. Deep thump usually when slowing down or coasting over dumps cracks..pretty much anything and it sounds like my front end is falling apart. My mechanic lacks attention to detail...

-I am guessing it is strut bushings..just don't know???

Ball joints, swaybar end links are the things i would look at first.

And yes, the shocks can be shot. 10 years is a long time even though they only have 60k (which is when most struts start to degrade anyway)

I had the same problem. In my case it was the front swaybar bushings. The good news is it's an easy and inexpensive DIY

I just had all four struts and bushings replaced, along with the lower ball joints which had about 1/8" worth of play, and it helped both the ride quality and the clunking noise in my 2000 TL with 147,000 miles and its original suspension.

However, someone forgot to lube the new bushings so they were squeaking like a high school basketball game on a fresh-waxed court until they were hit with a bit of silicone. What's more, someone forgot to fully tighten the nut on the front driver-side strut too, and there may be a similar problem in one or both of the rear struts. *sigh* I really hate having to hire someone to work on my car.

After switching out numerous parts and still having the same problem, I took the car to Midas, I think. 15 minutes, and free to inspect, they put the car on a lift it was much easier that way to move things around and try to replicate the sound. I bought the Moog replacement bushings, you will need two, installed them and problem solved. It seemed a lot easier to take it somewhere that offers a free inspection and gets the car in the air. Hope this helps

If you are talking the post above yours, most likely the sway bar bushings.

Hey guys - make sure that the mechanic installs the strut bushings the right way, with the conical section OUT, not IN. Apparently Hondas are one of the only cars with strut bushings designed that way, so I'm told after two separate occasions where they were installed inside out.

Yes, cone shape goes UP, or away from each other.
