Rusted Koni Yellows

Hi,

I have a set of Koni Yellows and they are rusting and the paint is chipping off. Are these still good? I sprayed them with Rust Killer.

Thanks

no idea.. haven't put them on yet, bought them 2nd hand. This set came with Eibach springs which are still in good condition. I will put them on soon unless someone advises me not to.

Does it appear like surface rust you could sand off and repaint to protect or has rust eaten through parts of the shock body?

Post pics to give us a better idea.

anything leaking? when you compress the shock does it still come back up? is it difficult to compress the shock or can you do it with ease? do you know how many miles are on them? it's probably just surface rust....

I just got Koni Yellow and I know for sure they have lifetime warranty. The Eibach Pro-Kit has only 1 year warranty.

warranty is only valid if you have a proof of installation by a "professional" mechanic, by means of a receipt. you can easily ask a auto store to doctor one up for you.

I finally got the time to post some pictures of the rust. The rears are still ok. The fronts are the ones that are rusted pretty bad.

I think I may just end up purchasing a new set of fronts or getting a body shop to sand down the rust and paint it, one shop quoted me $50 for the two. What do you guys think?

As long as about 4- 6 inches of the shaft is clean and free of rust- thats the first thing- any debris there will destroy the seal inside the shock, and you are doing the job again.
If you have the tools and time so its no biggie to you- then sand them -paint them with rustoleum or similar stop rust product and give it a shot!
