resonator

What benifits does removing the resonator have on the car?

It's a slight restriction to the exhaust flow so some people like to remove it. It's there to "mellow" out the exhaust tone which goes with the TL's luxo-cruiser image.

Im assuming u mean exhaust, not intake but removing intake resonator makes a slightly louder deeper sound at quick accelerations, sounds awesome.

Removing Exhaust resonator its pretty much louder and deeper, not more high pitched. You will get resonance in the cabin, some ppl dont mind it, some do. I put on magnaflows and took out the stock resonator but the sound was too harsh in the cabin (mainly b/c magnaflows make the sound even deeper) so i put an 18" magnaflow muffler where the resonator was.

If u want a nicer sound w/o spending on new exhaust, i'd say just remove the resonator, and if its too harsh u can always opt for an aftermarket one like I and most ppl do in that case.

Do a search for Intake/Exhaust Resonators depending on which ur wondering about

i work on exhaust all the time....usually when you take out the resonator it gives the exhaust a harsher tone. this is different for each car, but usually you can notice the difference in the sound. just go for an aftermarket resonator if you are worried about the oem one.

Running the stock mufflers with a removed resonator will not sound good. Of course if you want loud then that's the thing to do. The stock cans will sound very raspy, almost the same as if you punched holes in your exhaust pipes before the cans (mufflers).
Remember seeing those junker cars at the demolition derby? That's kinda what your car will sound like.

Dang that would suck. Exhaust systems are pretty hard to get the exact tone down, seems like. Anyone have the stock mufflers with a different resonator? Wonder if that would make a difference? Probably just need to get new mufflers to make a worthwhile difference in sound.

i ran my tl with an aftermarket resonator for a few hours before swapping out the mufflers...slightly deeper tone, although cruising speed it was not noticeable. only from outside the car at low idle was the sound different. i have noticed this to be the case on many different makes and models of cars. mufflers and exhaust diameter is where the tuning becomes important. take your car to a good muffler shop and they should be able to point you in the right direction. what kind of sound are you looking for?

I dont want it to be very loud...because its not like my car is sporty anyway, so I dont want to look weird with a loud exhaust on my car. some TL's and CL's could pull it off though. I would just like some low tone when I start it up and get on it. Basically the best stock exhaust I heard was a G35 that was by me at a light...perfect, not very loud but just enough that you could hear the engine

Remove the intake resonator and call it good. Sounds great to me. Its quiet with steady throttle and nice and loud at WOT.
