question Aftermarket/OEM wheels.
Hello fellow TLers,
i bought these aftermarket rims used.
it was a mistake.
little vibrations...wobbling...several attempts at balancing, the mechanic tells me.."this one has a wobble...this one won't balance..but i put it on the rear"..
i even had 2 of them repaired, but they just disappointment.
i think one i bent on a pothole.
and a word of advice to anyone buying used rims...be careful.
these aren't even made anymore..i cannot get a replacement.
i cannot even sell them, because it would just be dishonest..and who would buy
wobbly rims?..
and they're 8 inch rims...which i think is too wide for this car.
they look real perty though...
but now i want to replace them.
so i was looking for used OEM rims, TL-S rims...but
i'll be damned if i'm going buy curbed, wobbly, slightly out of balance rims.
AGAIN!...
how can i verify quality of aftermarket rims?.
can someone recommend street use quality rims?.
that will hold up like OEM rims?.
is it the weight of the rim that governs durability?.
are racing rims stronger than the TL-s or CL-s OEM rims?.
any input would be greatly appreciated.

Mille Miglia is a pretty decent brand. Tirerack stands behind their products, so you won't have to worry about defects.
As for the strength of the wheel, yeah, weight has some factor in it. But mostly, the main difference comes between whether or not the wheel is forged. Forged wheels are much stronger, and could be made lighter. Cast rims tend to be a bit heavier, and not as strong. But that's not to say that cast rims are bad. They are still good, if made properly by a reputable company. Besides, forged rims are usually much more expensive.
