How often do you change springs/shocks?

I've heard that riding on H&R Sport springs (1.5" drop) would give you a max. 6 months out of the stock shocks before they go. I figured that if I get a 1" drop, it would put a little more stress on the stock shocks than they normally would with stock springs.

Currently I have 134,XXXKM on my TL, is it almost time to change springs shocks?
The old wives tale on shocks wearing out in 6 months after lowering. Them wearing out all depends on the size of the drop, how many miles that are already on the shocks, climate, type of driving, road conditions. I put 100k on my civic dropped on H&Rs and they were still like new (stock shocks).
With the miles you have i wouldnt waste my time sticking any lowering spring on it. Your coming into the territory where you would be normally replacing them anyway..

Ok, thanks, I educated myself reading your tale thuroughly! When would I know when to replace my springs and struts? When they blow? I might as well wait until I use the most out of the stock setup and get myself a nice set of coilovers or H&R Sports with Tokico's.

Shocks dont just "Blow" they wear out far before that, most dont even notice. At the mileage your at they are near or beyond their life

134 000 kilometers = 83 263.7 miles

What would happen if I never change the shocks and springs? Would my ride quality be affected?

your ride quality slowly deteriorates over the life of the shock. Thats why most never notice that they are worn out. It happens so slowly that nothing ever feels different. Some happen to wear out worse than others and start wearing out tires and the ride is really affected. Shocks arent that expensive and is something that should be looked into. Especially nearing the 100k mark. Simple answer to your question, yes ride will be effected
