PICS: 18x8+48 Wheels & 235/40-18 Tires

Well I originally was going for 100% functionality (19lbs 17x8 bronze wheels....light....wide...cheaper tires & wheels, and having it in bronze means you never have to worry about brake dust) to this...

These are Rota Quake/Blades in 18x8+48 with a hubsize of 73mm. The Tires are Fuzion ZRi 235/40-18. When first looking at these, I was informed by the internet sales guy that the weight of the 18's were 21.4lb, so I figured 2.4 lb difference for 18s is negligible. HOWEVER...when I weighed them personally, they ended up being 23.4lbs.

Tirerack has these Fuzion tires listed as weighing in @ 25lbs. Unfortunately I was unable to weigh the tire independently, but prior to mounting them on my car, I was able to measure the COMBO (wheel+tire) and it was 48.5 lbs...so Tirerack IS ACCURATE.

Weight of my old setup (2001 17x7 CLS wheels + VERY VERY worn out 235/45-17 Sumitomo HTR+) was 46.5 lbs, however when I measured the other pair with more tread, it was 1lb heavier. I'll be picking up my unmounted rims later today and I'll measure those myself, however I've seen posts around claiming they are 26lbs.

P.S.
No rubbing...but time will tell.

Edgalang,

Nice setup. Do tell us how they handle. I wonder ... how long are you gonna keep those stainless steel valvecaps? My Volks didn't last me 2 summers (ie punk kids stole a pair of my Rays caps ... )

Here's an update.

2001 17x7+55 CLS Enkei wheels = 26 lbs.

So...if Tirerack was accurate (in weight) in regards to the 18 inch Fuzions...they're probably accurate with other tires as well. Sooo.

Sumitomo HTR+ in 235/45 WR17 = 26 lbs.

So if we were to be fair and have brand new tires matched with my old wheels, it'll be 52 lbs total. That means in about 50k miles, I've lost about 5 lbs worth of rubber per wheel!

In summary...

Stock 17x7+55 & 235/45-17 = 52 lbs
New 18x8+48 & 235/40-18 = 48.5 lbs.

Those rims look sweet. Where did you buy them from and how is their durability and quality?

First impression quality is great. HOWEVER, I've only had them for 3 days so time will tell. As for location...I bought them from a local Subaru shop in Fremont.

Too bad they are not a little bigger but you have good reasons for staying with 17's.

Edgalang,

I'm looking at those wheels as well, same size. Did the seller recommend 235/40/18 tires as opposed to 225/45/18?
